Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

How to change a Whirlpool Lid Switch

Hello and welcome to FixYa. In this article, I will teach you how to change a lid switch on a Whirlpool Washer. You will need a 4-way screwdriver and a flathead screwdriver. First, you want to make sure you unplug your washing machine. You are going to now take off the control panel by removing the screws with your screwdriver. Once this is done, you will be able to pull out the control console. You should be able to place the console securely on the small hinge.

Next, you should be able to locate the wiring harness to the lid switch. It will be on the back of the top panel. There will be a plastic lock that has to be removed. You should be able to remove it with your hand. There are also two metal clips. You can use your flathead to remove the two clips. These two clips secure the panels.

After you remove the clips, you should be able to access the lid switch. The lid switch has two screws. Both of them can be removed with your screwdriver. Once they are out, the lid switch will be unsecured and you can move to the last step. Lastly, take off the wire connector on the back of the cabinet and the lid switch will come out.

It is very important to take notes, pictures, or other measurements that will help you remember the proper assembly and reassembly. Always make sure that the washer has no power going to it. I thank you for your time and I hope you find this useful. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

wont spin just clicks

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

washer fill with water model # LA4800XTW0 then just sits there no agiate no spin water will then drain once switch is manually advanced. Lid switch problem? OR direct motor coupler?

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

Based on your post, if you mean manually advancing the timer it will drain, it's a coupler. If you mean manually activating the lid switch, it is the lid switch or lid switch strike.

( this is based on the most common Whirlpool, Estate, Kitchen-Aid, Roper, Kenmore, Inglis top-load washer, not necessarily applicable to ALL...based on the model provided, it cover's yours)

Thank you for choosing FixYa. Please take a moment to rate the info I provided and a short testimony is appreciated.
