Install Windows Security Center
Open Internet Explorer and navigate to the Microsoft Windows Update website.
Click the "Express" button on the main page to have your computer checked for important updates to be installed.
Since Windows Security Center is not installed, it will be detected and installed within the update.
Search the list of updates that will be installed on your Computer and deselect any options besides Windows Security Center that you don't want installed at this time.
Click "Install Updates" to begin the installation process.
Set your computer up for Automatic Updates to keep your computer up to date.
You can do so by clicking "Start" followed by "Control Panel."
Click "Automatic Updates" and select the recommended option.
Click "Apply" followed by "OK" to save the changes and exit the window.
Install Windows Security Center in Windows Vista
Click the "Start" button followed by "All Programs." Scroll through the list and select "Windows Update" from the available options. You can also type "Windows Update" in the search field followed by pressing "Enter" to access it immediately.
Click the "Change Settings" button in the left window pane.
Select the radio button next to "Automatically download and install updates."
Click "OK" when you have finished. Windows will begin to scan your computer and download the necessary updates, one of which will be Windows Security Center if it isn't available on your computer already. When the updates have finished installing, a bubble will pop up in your system tray telling you new updates have installed and your computer needs to be restarted.
Restart your computer and once you log back on to Windows, Security Center will be available. You can access it by clicking the "Start" button and typing "Windows Security Center" in the search field. It will also be available in the "All Programs" software list.
Reinstall Windows Search
If for some reason you've lost Windows Search from your computer, it is possible to reinstall it.
Reinstalling Windows Search will improve the performance and stability of your computer system's indexer.
It will allow you to sort and group results in Windows Explorer more quickly, and will improve the indexing of your online email.
It expands your system's ability to do fast remote queries of file shares, including on Windows XP and Server 2003.
It automatically indexes shared folders and contains improvements in previews for earlier supported operating systems (Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP).
When you type a search term into Windows Search, the results appear quickly.
This is also true for information from emails and their attachments.
Download and install Windows Search on your computer.
Click on the appropriate link for your version of Windows.
Click "Open" to download the file if you use Vista.
Click "Save" to download the file if you use Windows XP.
Click on "Run" to install Windows Search on your computer.
Follow the prompts to complete Windows Search installation.
Restart your computer.
Windows Search will be available in the Start menu if you use Vista.
If your operating system is Windows XP, use the Deskbar for quick and easy search access to indexed content on your PC or the network.
