Tip & How-To about Plumbing

HOW TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF YOUR GARBAGE DISPOSAL.

Cleaning Your Garbage Disposal.

To improve the performance and longivity of your garbage disposal you should clean the iniside of the machine monthly. Gunk builds up inside of the disposal things suchas, grease, dirt, peels, etc... The following is extreemely effective in removing all types of material from your disposal and will also leave it smelling great.

FIRST STEP.
GRAB (2) ICE CUBE TRAYS FORM THE FREZER.

  1. CRACK THE CUBES FROM THE TRAYS AND PUT 6 TO 8 CUBES INSIDE THE DISPOSAL (THE DISPOSAL SHOULD BE OFF WHEN YOU ARE PUTTING THE ICE CUBES IN).
  2. AFTER PUTTING 6 TO 8 CUBES IN THE DISPOSAL TURN THE UNIT ON AND RUN TILL THE CUBES ARE GONE. REPEAT THIS UNTIL BOTH TRAYS OF CUBES ARE USED UP.
  3. AFTER THE ICE CUBES ARE GONE RUN THE DISPOSAL WITH HOT WATER RUNNING THROUGH IT FOR ABOUT HALF A MINUTE.
  4. AFTER RUNNING THE HOT WATER THROUGH THE DISPOSAL PEEL A LEMON. DISCARD THE PEEL IN THE TRASH. PLACE THE WHOLE PEELED LEMON IN THE DISPOSAL WITH THE DISPOSAL TURNED OFF. START RUNNING HOT WATER AGAIN AND TURN ON THE DISPOSAL. RUN THE DISPOSAL UNTIL THE LEMON IS GONE. TURN OFF THE HOT WATER AND RUN COLD WATER THROUGH THE DISPOSAL FOR A FEW SECONDS AND TURN OFF.
The inside of your disposal is now sparkling clean and smelling good. If you use your disposal a lot do this cleaning once a month. If you don't use your disposal much do it every 3 months. Your disposal will work and smell much better. THANK YOU.
