Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

Remote control do's and don'ts!

1. If you are buying a UNIVERSAL remote for some reason do not expect it to provide all the original functions or EVEN TO WORK FOR YOUR UNIT. You in most cases are better with the original---if the original does not work there are ways to deal with that.

A dead remote is usually bad batteries, dirty or loose connections or has had some liquid spilled into it.

Most remotes can be taken apart (if its dead nothing to lose here) and the circuit board cleaned with alcohol etc and the rubber like keypad washed with dish soap, dried completely and the unit usually works again.

2. NEVER STORE REMOTES WITH THE BATTERIES IN THEM FOR PROLONGED PERIODS OF TIME; the batteries can leak and a white mess similar to battery cables in a car occurs. This can be dealt with by cleaning all the white stuff out and cleaning the metal contacts by use of a small file or knife----DO NOT USE WATER etc for cleaning here.

3. Most shops have a remote tester, it is a card with a strip and when the remote is pointed at it the strip lights up (3 dollar item on the internet).

4. Lost remotes for many units are a problem----some never think to GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER OF THE SET with the word REMOTE after it---AVOID UNIVERSALS. Many units (TV combos, DVD, blue ray etc) MUST HAVE THE ORIGINAL REMOTE for all functions to be accessed.

5. Three things for the most part cause remotes not to work: DROPPED, LIQUID SPILLED, AND BATTERY ISSUES.

Dropped is most likely to be fatal if the board inside is damaged, the other two are fixable 95% of the time.

Remote control issues

If you whsh to get all functions operated with your TV, you must have its original remote control, and it is no doubt. No universal remote control will operate with all functions, that are supposed to be, especially to Sony Brands. You can buy the original remote control from the authorized service center for Sony, or from any authorized dealer for Sony. Then why do you go for an experiment

polaroid remote tdac-02212 code?

If you are using a universal do not expect it to even if it programs to have all the functions you need or want or had with the original remote.

Universal remotes are far from UNIVERSAL.

The best argument for an original remote is even if it programs it will just not have all the features needed or wanted that the original had.

Hope this clears things up a little.

Remote issues and answers:

If you are using a "universal" remote do not expect it to if it evenprograms to have all the functions you need or had with the"original" remote.

If you are searching for codes for a universal to program it: GOOGLE the modelnumber of the remote for "codes" or if you do not have the ownermanual GOOGLE the model number of the remote for "manual".

Some remotes have a search feature that allows you to try all codes on at atime.

Universal remotes are far from UNIVERSAL.

If you have a remote that does not work at all--have it tested first: a remotetester is used at many electronic repair centers and places like Radio Shack for example.

Point remote at the tester and press any button and a strip or light willflash----some digital cameras will also react on display screen to this.

If dead check the battery/s and the connections where they go and if only somebuttons have to be pressed hard the unit may have had something spilled on it:it can be taken apart and cleaned in a proper way to resolve this.

If it has been dropped it can also be taken apart to see if the infrared LED/sat its sending end have come loose from the circuit board inside the remote.

Lastly is the best argument for an original remote is on many sets even if itprograms it will just not have all the needed functions the original one had.

Many companies especially on units with DVD OR VCR built in change the codewith each model and or year as most of these are not actually made by thecompany whose name is on the unit.

I have a link where you can buy the original remote control of your unit. Click it HERE.
You may buy also the universal remote control but you have to expect that not all of the button key will work unlike the original one.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!

I just got a dish installed and cannot program the remote control

What you can try:
- Check the DirecTV code set for the following brands:
Funai, Symphonic, Sylvania, Aventura, Durabrand, ESA, Magnavox, INSIGNIA, and Misakai

Your set and the above-named are all built by Funai.

Even if you find one that works, it probably will not give you full functionality as would the original TV remote, which you can probably find at http:\\www.remotes.com

Before you buy any 'universal' remote, please don't expect it to absolutely work with your set; there is no such thing as a 'universal' remote.
If you find one that interests you, take the time to look up the mfr.'s website and check the code lists for your set.
