Tip & How-To about Washing Machines

Whirlpool Washing Machine F20 Error code explained and resolution

"F20" is a No Water Detect error. It is an indication that you either have no water coming into the washer, or very little water at all. If the pressure switch has not tripped after 6 minutes, the error code is displayed. This can be a potential problem with the following:

  1. Check that there are no obstructions to the water entering the machine (faucet setting, clogged screen, kinked hose, etc.)
  2. Remove the top cover and check the resistances of the inlet water valves and and flowmeter.
  3. Check that the flowmeter has been installed properly - with the rounded section vertically oriented.
  4. Check out the drain hose. An improperly installed drain hose can result in 'siphoning' if the drain hose tip is in contact with water (or if a pressure issue exists within the drain). That water may be siphoned out of the hose resulting in this F20 error.
  5. Pull the hose out of the drain pipe and see if the tip is wet.
  6. If so, add more hose. You can do this with PVC pipes.
