unlock administrator password

At some point, you'll encounter a password issue on your Toshiba laptop computer for several possible reasons. For instance, you may have decided to go back to the old laptop, and it's been a while since you last logged into it. Forgetting a password is also common if you tend to create different codes for various uses: email, network administrator user information and bank account details, for instance. Should you need to unlock a Toshiba laptop computer that runs on Windows XP, here is what you can do.

Use a Windows installation CD to reset your password for your Toshiba laptop computer. This is the same one that you got when you purchased the computer. Boot the laptop using the CD in the same way that you would go through a re-installation for your operating system. Simply insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive and wait for the computer to read it. From there, you will get a prompt that says "press any key to boot from CD," so you just need to follow as instructed. Repair Windows. Once the CD starts up, you will get to a screen that will ask you whether you want to "Install Windows" or "Repair Windows." Press "R" to repair. The computer will then reboot itself after copying files from the CD into the Toshiba laptop's hard drive. Get into the control panel. After the computer boots up, you will encounter a screen that will say "Installing devices." To open the command prompt, press the keys "Shift + F10." On the command prompt, type in "nusrmgr.cpl." Change your password. Getting into the control panel will allow you to change your password using the administrator's control panel utilities. Just go through the process of designating a new password to unlock your Toshiba laptop and then exit the command prompt. Restart the laptop and try logging back in using the new password. Log on without the Windows XP installer. If you don't have a Windows bootable CD, use another computer with internet access so you can create an emergency recovery disk (ERD) that will allow you to unlock a Toshiba laptop. Browse through the internet and search for ERD software. Burn the ERD program into the blank CD and use it to reboot the Toshiba laptop that you want to unlock. The computer will automatically detect the program, so it will take you to a series of prompts where you can change your password.

Use your system restore disks to repair your computer since the OS is FUBAR
Without those disks you are SOL. And if you never made them or lost them, now you have learned first hand why it is so important to have them.
Go to the dell site and see if they have your original OS in an iso file for installation. If so that will save your sorry b---.

how do you go about to format a toshiba l650 and reinstall windows 7

Hi! If you have the Windows 7 disc just insert it restart the computer. It will boot directly from the disc. Then follow the step by step instructions here.
If you don't have the Windows 7 disc, you have two ways to reformat your Toshiba computer.
Using Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from the recovery partition
In case of a hard disk drive failure, you may be able to restore the drive to the factory default state using the on-disk Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility (in a special partition on the hard disk drive).
You can select restoring the entire hard disk drive to the factory default state, or restoring only the C: drive -- without affecting other partitions (for example, a D: drive) -- or changing the size allocated to your C: drive, and then restore it.
To recover your hard disk drive from a system failure using the utilities stored on your computers HDD, follow these steps:
  1. If the computer is running, shut it down -- by clicking Start, Shut Down, and again Shut Down.
  2. Press and hold the 0 (zero) key on your keyboard and then press the computers power switch. When the computer turns on, the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting three options:

Restore Original Factory Image (Recommended)
CAUTION:
Restoring a hard disk drive to its factory default state deletes all partitions on the hard disk drive and all data stored on those partitions. All of your files and information will be lost! Be sure to back up all important files first.
  1. Press 1 to restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. A confirmation message will appear, indicating that all data will be overwritten and lost during the restore process. Be sure to back up all important files before proceeding.
  2. Click Yes to begin the recovery. A message will appear once the operation is finished, indicating the HDD has been restored.
  3. Press any key to restart the computer.
* The options 2 & 3 are for advanced users.
Hard Disk Drive Recovery using Recovery CDs or DVDs
You may also wish to to run the Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility from Recovery CDs or DVDs that you have created.

Insert the first Recovery CD or DVD into your CD/DVD drive, and turn on the computer. Once the computer is running, the TOSHIBA HDD Recovery Utility screen will appear, presenting the same three options above. Again Press 1 to
restore your hard disk drive to its original factory default state. Click Yes to begin the recovery. Press any key to restart the computer.

Installing Drivers and Applications
The TOSHIBA Application Installer allows you to reinstall the drivers and applications that were originally bundled with your computer.
To reinstall drivers and applications:
  1. Double-click the "Toshiba Application Installer" icon on the Windows desktop. This utility may also be launched by clicking Start -->All Programs --> Hard Disk Recovery Utilities.

  2. Click "Next".
  3. Click the item(s) you wish to install. To select multiple items, hold down the Ctrl key as you click your selections.
  4. Click "Install".
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation process.

Hope this helps.
