How to fix your sound by installing a new driver

If your sound isn't working and you've checked all of the obvious causes, more than likely there's an issue with your sound driver. A driver is a piece of software that allows your computer to recognize and communicate with the hardware, in this case your speakers, effectively. If your sound isn't working, your driver may be out of date. To update and install a new driver, just follow these steps!

1. Open device manager. There are many ways to do this and your method may depend on what operating system you're running.

  • Click "Start" and then "Run". Then type "mmc devmgmt.msc".
  • Click "Start" and then "ControlPanel". Then open the Computer Management Utility.
  • If you still can't open it, click here for a guide.
2. Once you've got Device Manager running, select the "Sound, video and game controllers" section. Under the section, search for any hardware that hasa little yellow warning sign next to it.

3. Right-click on the hardware with the warning sign and click "Update driver". Then follow the steps and Windows should be able to automatically install the driver foryou.

4. If Windows fails to install the driver properly, you may still be able to download and install the driver yourself. Just go to the manufacturer's website and find your product's page. There may be a downloadable driver on that page that you can easily download and install it yourself.

5. After the driver is properly installed, you may need to reboot your computer. After that, you should be able to hear your sound again!

Hope this helps!

overheating of graphics card while playing games

  • Clogged fan

The main device responsible for maintaining a constant temperature of your video card is the fan present in the processor. If this isn't functioning efficiently it's quite obvious that it would result in your video card overheating. If you don't regularly clean your computer, it could be highly likely that your fan is clogged with dust.

This is one of the simplest causes of your video card overheating which can be fixed by simply cleaning your fan, preferably using a blower.

  • Broken fan

A follow up of the previous point, in some cases your fan maybe malfunctioning or stopped working altogether. This could simply be diagnosed by switching on your computer with its cover open and checking if the fan is functioning. If it doesn't happen to be working, you have your answer.

  • Overclocking

Pushing your CPU to its limits by overclocking can cause your video card to overheat. This can seem fairly obvious too as if you find your video card overheating and if you've recently overclocked your CPU, it would explain it.

  • Faulty Drivers

This is a rare cause, but depending on your video card's brand a badly developed driver could also cause your video card to overheat. If you use an unusual video card with questionable reputation this could be the issue.

  • Inefficient Airflow

While your fan maybe perfectly in tact and working, the location of your fan also matters. If there isn't sufficient air flow to your video card it can also cause it to overheat.

Those are typically the 5 main reasons to your video card overheating. If you have any other points in your mind, feel free to share them below.

sound drivre are note work in pc

Go to the device manager and check that the device is enabled: start>control panel>hardware and sound>device manager. Look for video and sound controllers and expand the menu. Find the sound adapter, right click and click properties. The general tab will tell you if the device is working properly. You can got to the driver tab and choose update driver and then search automatically for updated software.
Seems obvious, but check that the sound isn't muted, as well.

heat blowing cold air

Make sure your coolant level is full.
Does the temp guage stay just to the left of middle when idling??
I have a feeling your t-stat is sticking and at idle the motor isn't making enough heat to keep warm with the t-stat sticking open. you've got a coolant problem. I'm more inclined to believe its low coolant level rather than the thermostat - especially if the CEL light isn't on. If you don't find an obvious leak, pull the oil cap and look on the bottom of the cap. If you find a butterscotch colored sludge, you probably have a head gasket issue. A shop can pressure test the system and determine what is the most likely cause.

I just bought my dell laptop less than three months ago and the sound is not working anymore. how do i fix this? It is not on mute. the volume it up. I've checked everything. I've restarted the computer and everything!

Hi whitco0313,

A corrupted or missing audio driver can cause this problem. You can try to do a System restore back to the earliest date that it worked fine. If this doesn't help, you need to check out Dell website and download the audio driver compatible for your laptop model and operating system version.

I hope this helps, please inform me if this resolves your problem or not to check for other resolution that we could try. Thank you.

Cannot connect my PS3 to Panasonic TV via HDMI, my PS3 will connect to other HD TVs using HDMI but not Panasonic

Does your TV work on VGA, it maybe worthwhile getting a HDMI---VGA lead and try that as it sounds like your TV isn't working, and you've tried the obvious. Do any other HDMI devices work on your TV, like DVD HD/SAT?
