Sony TV Error Code - Ten Blinks

You turn on your big and beautiful Sony TV and nothing happens. Then you notice that the standby light is blinking. After counting the number of blinks it becomes apparent that it is blinking Ten times then stopping for 3 seconds and blinking Ten times again. What is the problem?

When you have an error code of ten blinks on a Sony television the problem is on the "D" board. You could troubleshoot the board if you have the experience to do this or you could just replace it. These days the replacement boards are not that expensive and I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/myprofile/tips.aspx?usrid=3973&__paged_rvposts=3 which will explain the replacement process and walk you through the remove and replace.

If you have the experience or really want a challenge you can troubleshoot the "D" board. First I would look for any electrolytic capacitors which are bulging. If you do not find any then check Q8014 and Q8013 on the "D" board for shorts, leakage or bad solder joints. If you find any problems replace the units and resolder any suspicious looking solder joints.

If you find that the transistors are bad then check R8051 and IC8005 which are also on the "D" board.

As you can probably see it would be much easier to just purchase a new "D" board and use my instructions to replace it. You can find new boards at several websites. http://www.encompass.com or http://www.shopjimmy.com or http://www.moduslink.com or http://www.tristatemodule.com .

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

my sony trinitron tv wont turn on and standby light keeps blinking

Hi
Blinking of standby light in Sony sets are fault indication. The number of blinks occurs at one instance must be counted. With that bumber I can reach to the fault section inside its circuit; sometimes to the exact fault point too. Just turn OFF the set, and turn it ON, and count the number of blinks at a time [do this atleast 3times and make it sure]; and inform me by Fixya. OK.

TV won't stay on. Standby light flashes 5-10 seconds then shuts off. Just before this happened - it turned on , had good sound but the picture never lit up. Now it won't even turn on. I've disconnected and re-connected both the power source and the cable. Also hooked up a small TV to the same power source and cable and it works fine.

Hello
Blinking of standby light in Sony sets are fault indication. You just count the exact number of blinks occur at on instance, say, after you switch On and OFF by its front panel power switch, not by remote control hanset. Just count it atleast 4 times, count it keenly and inform it to me, and let me reach to the nearest falult point; or sometimes to the exact point. OK.

my tv will not turn on

The blinking standby light is an indicator that an internal safety circuit has kicked in. The light shouldbe blinking a repeated pattern of count/pause/count etc. Can you please post the count here? That will indicate the problem circuit and allow us to provide you with the solution.

Thanks,
Dan

standby mode and can't get tv to work

This sounds like the set is in protective shutdown. A problem has been detected and the set shut down. Normally when this happens, the standby light will blink a code count. Can you count the blinks and post that number here? That will indicate the circuit in which the problem was detected. Also, please confirm that the model number of the set is: KV-36HS500 as the blink codes are different based upon model.

Thanks,
Dan

Blinking standby light and nothing else...

When Sony TVs detect a problem, they shutdown and present a blink code. The blinking should be a repeated count. Please report that count here as that indicates the circuit in which the problem was detected.
Thanks,
Dan
