Tip & How-To about Televison & Video
You turn on your big and beautiful Sony TV and nothing happens. Then you notice that the standby light is blinking. After counting the number of blinks it becomes apparent that it is blinking Ten times then stopping for 3 seconds and blinking Ten times again. What is the problem?
When you have an error code of ten blinks on a Sony television the problem is on the "D" board. You could troubleshoot the board if you have the experience to do this or you could just replace it. These days the replacement boards are not that expensive and I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/myprofile/tips.aspx?usrid=3973&__paged_rvposts=3 which will explain the replacement process and walk you through the remove and replace.
If you have the experience or really want a challenge you can troubleshoot the "D" board. First I would look for any electrolytic capacitors which are bulging. If you do not find any then check Q8014 and Q8013 on the "D" board for shorts, leakage or bad solder joints. If you find any problems replace the units and resolder any suspicious looking solder joints.
If you find that the transistors are bad then check R8051 and IC8005 which are also on the "D" board.
As you can probably see it would be much easier to just purchase a new "D" board and use my instructions to replace it. You can find new boards at several websites. http://www.encompass.com or http://www.shopjimmy.com or http://www.moduslink.com or http://www.tristatemodule.com .
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.
