Just perform the following steps:

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the last month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

Now Goto Strart and then Run
write "msconfig" inside Run tab and press 'enter'
inside the 'Sys config utility' window click on 'startup' tab then uncheck all the applications except your current antivirus and press apply then 'ok' and then 'exit without restart' option.

Now right click My Computer and go to properties tab.
click 'Advanced' tab then under performance menu click on 'settings'
goto 'Advanced' click on 'change' and increase your virtual memory to 2048 in both spaces.
now restart windows.

To quickly restart windows press CNTRL+ALt+DEL
inside task manager you will find all the open applications .
right click on each applicaion and click on end process tree then ok

Close all your apps like this and you will find your windows a lot faster and now you can reboot or turn off your windows as usual from start button.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

hi,my neighbour has lent me his D500 latitude,it is really slow opening pages and everything up.when i browse the web,ie becomes unresponsive,it freezes, only the cursor will move, but it wont click on anything.is there an app i can use to clean the system up,or can i disable running tasks,i am not the administator, just scared when it crashes, cuz i have to turn it off,by the standy switch

Please follow the steps below to make it faster a bit....

Click Start-> Run, type msconfig and click Ok. The System Configuration Utility will start. Now click on Startup tab. You will see a list of programs which starts automatically when Windows starts.
In that list, uncheck the program items, which you generally don't use. It will make your computer a little faster.
The above procedure can also be modified a little, that is uncheck all items under Startup tab, restart your computer.
Now check one item at a time, restart computer and test the speed of your computer. This way, you will find the programs, which are making the computer show. Remember to use a pen and paper to take a note about which items you are selecting or unselecting.

Please try one more thing:

Open Start-> Settings-> Control Panel-> System. Click on Advanced tab. Under Performance, click on Settings, click on Adjust for best performance, click Apply and Ok.

Then do this Click->Start->Programes->Accessories->System Tools->Disk Clean Up and select the C:Drive and clean it

computer is very slow how can i speed it up?

If you are using Windows XP, use the following steps to disable some startup programs:

Click Start-> Run
Type msconfig and press Enter
Click on the Startup tab
Click Disable All
Click Services tab
Click on the checkbox Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable All
Click Apply and Close

Restart the computer.

You will get a notification about using the system configuration utility.

Click the checkbox for Do not show this again

Click Ok

If the system appears to run faster, the next step will be to re-enable a few items under startup tab. You can keep most of the items disabled except your antivirus software.

"Webcam is in use by another application."

in ue by another app is usually a driver conflict or a virus. if you have a 3n1 printer or a scanner unplug it and reboot the pc see if you get the same message. if not update the scanner or printer drivers. if the messgae return even after the reboot try a clean boot next.
