Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

How to Tie a Tie

The knot that will be taught is called a Pratt knot, aka the Shelby Knot. It is a simple, easy to do knot that looks good with almost any shirt and tie combination.

Step 1) Start with the tie inside out, and the wide end about a foot further down than the narrow end.

Step 2) Cross the wide end under the narrow end.

Step 3) Make a knot by bringing the wide end up and through the intersection of both ends.
See the picture below, it will make more sense.

Step 4) Experiment a little to tighten and raise the knot up to your collar.

Step 5) Once the knot is raised, cross the wide end back over the narrow end and bring it up through the collar, as shown.

Step 6) Now, take the wide end you just pulled through and bring it down through the loop, on top of the narrow end.

Step 7) Now, tighten and adjust accordingly, and you're done!

How easy is it to use a Tie Fast Knot Tying Tool?

Hi - I have one of these and just some practice is all it takes. I bought a spool of cheap line at the local store to practice with.

Not hard to learn and makes great nail knots and hook snells too.

Regards - Fred
