Tip & How-To about Dishwashers

Clean Your Dishwasher And Remove Odor

  1. Using a small brush (old toothbrushes work well) dipped in hot soapy water, go around the door of the dishwasher taking care to get into the grooves and crevices of the rubber seal. Most likely, you'll be surprised at the debris that has built up, especially at the bottom of the door and around the hinges on the side.
  2. Scrub well. You may need to use a soft abrasive cleanser, such as Soft Scrub® to remove the dried and baked on grime.
  3. Using a household sponge dipped in hot soapy water, wipe off the dirt and grime that you stirred up with the brush. Go over the inside of the door and scrub any obvious areas inside the dishwasher that may have stuck-on food, such as out of reach corners.
  4. Pull the bottom rack out and examine the drain area. Wipe around it to be sure there are no hard chunks that can plug the drain, cause damage to the pump or scratch dishes. You'd be surprised at what dishwasher repairmen find

Hello. Welcome to a "nature of the beast" situation with cleaning your washer. These washers are a lot more user intensive than the older ones. I'm a tech and tell all my customers to build a CLEANING KIT consisting of the following:
2-gallon bucket
2 old toothbrushes
1 kitchen or bathroom scrub brush(on the medium/small side)
3 old wash cloths
3 pairs of comfortable rubber(Playtex) gloves
1 gallon of household bleach
Procedure: Put on gloves(always)
MIX 1 cup bleach to 1 gallon of warm/hot water
Clean the dispenser areas with the toothbrushes dipped in the water/bleach solution(be careful to *not* get bleach on any metal surfaces, use the scrub brush also. Try to flush the areas with clean water or wipe/flush with a wash cloth and clean water.
FOR CLEANING THE BELLOW(RUBBER BOOT THAT MAKES THE DOOR SEAL)
Dunk a wash cloth or 2 in the water/bleach solution, squeeze out enough water so that the cloth is very wet but *not* dripping, carefully place the cloths in the fold of the bellow and wipe around and around, repeating the dunking and squeezing as often as needed. DON'T BE ROUGH, DO NOT USE DENTAL TOOLS ANYWHERE NEAR THE BELLOW--if you puncture it, it will leak and have to be replaced. You can use a toothbrush or scrub brush as long as you are gentle with the scrubbing. Take your time and try to remove as much of the mold as possible.
Run a washer cleaner through the unit at least once per month. For heavy mold build-up you will have to use several boxes of cleaner once a week for 3 weeks. After each cleaning cycle(no spin needed), run the washer on HOT WATER, heavy duty, bulky, etc WITH NOTHING IN IT), then, for run #3, only wash whites--this will ensure that anything with cleaner in it has been flushed out the washer. I hope I helped you!

leaving grit on dishes that are mainly on top row

The upper spray arm is powered by water from a tube that runs up the back of your machine on the inside. If the connection is not aligned, then the water can't get to the spray arm. My children use to knock mine out of kilter when they loaded the lower section. It's easy to see if the supports are not attached to the upper rack and a simple snap will get them back in place.
You may have clogged jets in the upper spray arm.It will need to be removed so that you can soak it in hot soapy water and then flush it with hot water. You may also need to take a toothpick or tweezer to remove any debris that clogs the jets.
Finally, check the bottom of your door on the inside of the dishwasher. It's amazing the "gunk" that can collect there. This gunk can be redistributed to your dishes. I put some soapy water in a cup and use an old toothbrush to clean this area. Then I rinse twice with hot water. Finally run the dishwasher with 1/2 cup of white vinegar while empty.
This should take care of your gritty dishes. I hope so. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice!

how do you remove the door seal from a Randell 2010m rerfigerator and install a new one. The one that was shipped to me said snap in But I cant figure it out

Examine the NEW door seal, on the back of the seal, not the flat magnetic face you should see an arrow head shape. If this is correct then

FIRST READ ALL OF THIS

1. Switch off and unplug the fridge. Clean around the old seal with a toothbrush and hot soapy water, get right into where the old seal meets the door, inside and outside to remove all the old grime etc. This can hold the seal in quite tightly.
2. Gently pull at one of the corners, it helps if the seal is warm, eventually you should get a corner come free, then steadily work your way along the edge of the seal all the way round until it comes off.
3. Again get in there with the old toothbrush and hot soapy water and get the groove clean, it will make fitting the new seal easier.
4. This is the difficult bit (you are going to get sore thumbs) Steadily push one top corner of the arrowhead into the groove, if possible get someone else to hold it there, then push the next top corner into the groove, its really inportant to get the corners in first.
5. Work from one corner towards the other and stop at the middle.
6. Go to the other corner and again work towards the middle, try not to stretch the seal.
7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for each ot the other 3 sides
8. Go back to the corners and with a flat wooden popsicle (lollipop) stick or similar (nothing sharp or you will wreck the seal) check from the outside that the arrowhead is completely seated.
9. Work all around the seal with your thumb pushing the seal firmly into the slot, then go gently around the outside and inside edges as in 8
10. Close the door, you may see that the seal is not completely flat but it will settle over the next day or so.#
11. Plug in and switch on the fridge.
12.Wash and dry your hands and open a beer, you earned it

Best of luck
Gordon
