Tip & How-To about Cobra 29 LTD CB Radio

Cbradio and mobile operation

One of the few things i come across relating to the 11mtr band is operators setting vswr on low ground which will can totally give false readings sometimes .The best method while matching your antenna to your rig ,is to go to the highest peak possible ,Mountain etc and do all your settings from there you will be suprised the difference and outcome of this method .one instance ,ever set your base antenna on a we say a 10ft mast get a 1.1 match and then rise it 40ft suddenly the readings have risen to 2 or even 3 for that matter so if you take my advise you will allways have a low vswr hence better performance and long lasting communication from your rig ,note iff your vswr is high you can after prolonged use do damage to the final transistors so save yourself time and money and set as i have discribed

Fuel guage sometimes read empty when there is gas in the tank?

Check that there are no holes in the float. If the fuel is getting into the float, it will give a false reading. Another thing is to check the ground on the float sensor. If it's not connected tightly, it will create a false reading too.

I have a cobra29 LTD Classic and the ant warning led lights each time I key the mike. I have the radio mounted in an overhead dash, the radio is grounded to the truck via the power plug. That ground goes to the frame which is grounded to the battery. The antenna mount is also grounded to the frame. The antenna fastener is grounded to the mount. The ohm meter shows 0 ohms at all ground points. I tested the antenna mount and fasteners for shorts between the shield and the center post and none are present...at the antenna mount...at the radio where the coax connects to the radio I am seeing continuity from both the shield and from the center post receptor to ground. This is with the radio off. Any ideas?

A VSWR meter is your best bet. They are cheap for cb's . If the antenna is badly mismatched you will get an antenna warning lamp on. If the antenna has a tuning coil you will see usually continuity to ground from the whip. Use the vswr meter on the radio. Set to calibrate first, transmit on channel twenty while rotating the swr cal knob. set needle on orange triangle at top right of scale. Select VSWR mode and transmit. needle should move up slightly if antenna is tuned correctly. Try chaneel 1 and 40 with same procedure. You can tell if antenna is tuned more toward the high or low frequency by how high the needle is on the scale. The higher the reading the worse the match is. If there is always a high scale reading then try another antenna that you know works.Watch for flattened/damaged/water in between braid and jacket or corrosion on coax as this will change the coax impedance drastically

I HAVE A 2000 Toyota Corolla CE IT SAY IT HOT BUT ITS NOT WHAT CAN IT BE

low on coolant - steam going across the sensor instead of coolant will give a false reading. bad temp gauge sensor or a bad gauge and also does it go straight to hot as soon as you start the car when it is cold like first thing in the morning or does it gradually start climbing and will it run hotter or cooler when ac is on or when stopped or going down the road. let me know and give more info hope this helped.
