Tip & How-To about HP LaserJet M1005 All-In-One Printer

HP M1005 "Scan To" has disappeard in windows 7 - SOLVED

When I migrated to Windows 7 and installed the printer driver, the Scan To function disappeared.

I then found a firmware upgrade located at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1839458&prodNameId=1839459&swEnvOID=228&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ma-43456-3

Download M1005_FW_Update-20070302.exe (2.4 MB) and run the upgrade.

Then you press Windows Start, select Devices & Printers.
Then when the printers are shown, right click on the HP LaserJet M1005 and you will find the new scan options appear.

I have an hp c4580 all in one printer. Previously all worked fine on windows vista. Now with new laptop hp pavilion windows 7, it will not scan from printer to pc, for example, I can not scan a photo. I contacted customer service several times and spent a total of 10 hours with them on phone and chat with no results. They said this printer is not comparable with windows 7. They instructed me to uninstall all orient features and reinstall using link they provided. I did it several times but it still won't scan. It just says scan error each time.

Check to make sure you have the correct driver for your operating syytem; are you running Windows 7 (32-bit) or Windows (64-bit)?

Go to Start > Device and Printers > System Check under System type to confirm your operating system.

If you do not have the correct driver you can download from here. Make sure you also download the three (3) Utility- Diagnostic Tools. These may be able to help resolve your problem if you do not already have them.

Please note that HP has posted several alerts for this products concerning Windows 7. You should review; Resolving HP Solution Center Scan and Product Status Issues After Upgrading Windows Vista to Windows 7 and Scanned Files Disappear after Scanning with HP Solution Center

If you feel you have the correct driver properly installed try running the Scan Diagnostic Tool. If you are unsure about the driver I would start there with an uninstall of the current driver and download of an updated driver for the installed operating system.

If this does not resolve problems work through the advice provided in the on-line resources linked above.

Good luck in resolving your problem.

HP Deskjet F4480 will not print after vista to windows 7 upgrade. Ran HP printer diagnostic tool says driver conflict, uninstalled re-installed same problem, same diagnositics. Attempted to print test page, see it being sent but it does not print. Have done pwr on off, re-boots etc. HP Soution Center, sees the printer. All seems normal but does not print. Connect F4480 to another windows 7 system (installed direct vs the problem computer which went to windows 7 via the upgrade) and it works perfectly. This upgraded system shows nothing in the print buffer. The requested printed file just seems to disappear.

Windows 7 comes with basic driver built into the operating system (in-OS driver). With this basic driver, the buttons on the product do not function and some of the advanced product features are not available. However, using the workaround procedures in this document, you can still print from a software program. You can also import and view images on a memory card, if your product has a memory card slot. When you connect the product to the computer, Windows 7 detects the hardware and automatically installs the correct driver. A notification lets you know when installation begins and when it is complete. You do not have to download any software or insert the product CD. Follow these steps to install the basic driver in Windows 7.
  1. Turn the product on.
  2. Connect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable to the product and to the computer.
  3. A Your devices are ready to use window might display on the screen. If the window displays and does not close automatically, close the window.
Your basic Windows 7 driver is now installed. Some functions might not be available, but you can use the following workaround procedures instead.

I made the mistake of upgrading to Windows 7 from XP. I hated Windows 7 so I returned to XP. Now my Epson stylus CX3810 will not load into my laptop. What do I do?

Remove the printer. The machine probably still has the WIN 7 driver. Reboot should load the driver or use the software that came with the printer. Updated drivers are on the EPSON website.
