Tip & How-To about Car Audio & Video

How to remove a car stereo without stereo keys.

If you know someone who may have a set of keys you can borrow I would try that first, most keys are about the same.

OR you could try using 2 butter knives, slide the butter knives on each side of the radio (left and right) and wiggle them around until both sides are unlocked, then carefully slide the knives out (be careful not to let the radio lock back into place.) The radio should slide out fairly easily, but sometimes may be a little difficult.

Be careful: using stereo keys is the best way to do this, but if you do use the butter knives then be careful so you don't cause damage to the stereo, the vehicle, OR even yourself.

I'm guessing you have an aftermarket radio?
If so then you are probably needing keys to remove it.

I want to remove a Sony CDX-F50M from a hot tub to fix it. I don't have the special release keys. Is there a way to get it out without the special keys?

lost puller, how do i get unit out to attach auxillary cables

I'm guessing you mean the keys that slide between the radio and the dash, ask around to see if maybe one of your friends has an extra set you could borrow.... If thats not possible try using two butter knifes (one for each side) and usually that will move the locks out of the way so you can pull the stereo out.

How to remove my Clarion car cd player. Do not have the keys to unlock?

My best guess would be butter knifes, use them just like you would the keys, slide one in on each side and try to unlock it. OR if you have a friend who has a set of keys for a different radio you could borrow them and give them a try.
