How to access the Playstation PS3 Recovery Console

After firmware version 2.5 the PS3 now comes with a Recovery Mode Console. This is how you can access it.

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

From this menu, you will be able to do various features like the ones listed below in the screenshot.




Good luck. This mode will help you when your system crashes, games fail or if you see problems from firmware issues.

with the latest system update my ps3 has not been letting me update it. Error 80710723


Hi, you will probably have to retstore your sytem settings before you can run the recent update again.

This is done following these few steps :

When i powered on my PS3 a red screen appears saying a "Serious problem has occurred. Contact you technical support". I am out of warranty. I formatted the hard disk of the PS3 from my laptop, and then i update with the firmware 3.21. The update went fine but fast and then the red appears again. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help and time in advance.

you can try some of the options from this menu if your ps3 will allow you to bring it up i really hope this helps you out

My friends don't show up on my friends list



1. Turn off your PS3.
2. Press and Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again. Once the system is off then take your finger off the button.
3. Press and Hold the power button down again until you hear 2 consecutive beeps.
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button.
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
7. Select the Rebuild System Database option.

The Recovery Menu supports the following options:

Restart System: Restarts the PS3 System.
Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the Operating System for the PS3 (doesn't delete anything).
Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
System Update: Updates the PS3 firmware to current version.

ps3 dead after firmware upgrade


You are going to have to upgrade the firmware manually..download it with your computer to a external hard drive.from the playstation website...then plug it in to your ps3.. it should upgrade automatically..
then if you say nothing happens you mean like black out??
if so then try doing this recovery boot.

..I did this and i got my ps3 Back !! :)

Hi there. if you have PS3 Firmware 2.5 you could be in look. there is a System Restore ability on the PS3 which will allow you to restore your PS3 to a working state. and here is how to do it ! :

1. Turn off Playstation 3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION 3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
