Tip & How-To about Cell Phones

How to install custom roms on an android phone

Firstly you'll want to do some research around forums like modaco, specific sites for your phone, xda developers or similar sites to find information on how to do this for your specific phone model. The process will usually be very similar for most phones and will be as follows. Each rom will have some sort of specialty that it improves on compared to the stock one. This can be an android update that has not been released by carrier or just fixing certain bugs. For most phones there will be a small piece of software that needs to be loaded on to the phones memory so that it can install the custom rom of your liking, this is usually called the bootloader. This is usually completed with a specific program on you computer for your phone or by entering information to the command prompt on your computer. After this you will most likely only need to save the rom to your device and during startup go into that software that you installed earlier and choose the rom file from your sd card. The new software will be installed after the first boot, you will be able to load a new rom whenever you like, and you don't have to reinstall the bootloader. Just remember doing all of this will reset all settings game scores(angry birds) and apps, luckily you can back up at least all your apps with astro under the tools menu. As far as the games go i cant help you there, also if you are using adw launcher you can back up your homescreen.

How do I upgrade to 2.2 on hero?.

The above link has weekly or daily updates to nearly all Android capable mobile phones.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=512 is a more specific address.

Search ebay: "ANDROID 2.2. HERO" ... often brings sellers with complete instructions on working solutions, for a few dollars.

my touch screen stopped working on my samsung impression so i put the rest code in and the phone reset then its now stuck on the calibration screen and the touch screen wont respond

Dont kno if "Impression" is similar to "Omnia" but 'REMOTE SCREEN ALIGNMENT' program installed on PC skips 'align screen' on your phone. Also "welcome.not" (made in notepad) & pasted into your root files. A REGISTRY EDITOR will allow you to input the touchscreen configuration numbers manually. Of course, none of these will be much good if you dont have 'Windows" phone or cant access your Registry!!

If all this fails, ASK 'XDA DEVELOPERS', or 'MoDaCo'.

Ok, I'm going to give you a freebie here. Instead of retyping everything on the site, I'm going to link you to it. These guys are GREAT with the HTC phones. I belong to the site myself since I use an HTC Trinity:

It states that you should run the unlock tool posted at this link:

I checked it out, and it looks pretty straight forward. I don't have the Kaiser, so have not been able to try it myself. But the program looks pretty easy to use.

Download the file, then unzip it somewhere you can find the program. If you need help with unzipping, let me know.

After unlocking it, there are other pages where you can download new ROMS that will change the language. It's not something you can do on the phone, you actually have to replace the operating system to get another language. More info can be found here:

Choose your ROMS here:

i'm a newbie o2 xda IIs user.. i need help pls

these are not simple,

1 - Personally make sure your phone isnt on silent and make sure that you have not turned your tone down for the messaging. Go to Start>Settings and look around there for Tones or sounds or something.

2 - wap/internet should be set up already to use but it depends if you have the right sim card in for the phone E.G. - O2 XDA IIs will have the O2 settings on phone and putting a T-mobile sim card in wont be able to connect to the wap as you have O2 settings not T-mobile. So what you need to do is contact your network and ask them to send the right settings, as a rule they will just send it and it will be for free.

3 - What software do you mean? If you mean the latest operating software then you will need to flash the phones ROM and this could render your phone useless, however there are ways you can do it however you will need to go to other sites for this, sites i use are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ or http://www.modaco.com

Hope this helps.
