Hi,

Might it be that what you refer to as "reset the memory" is actually format the memory, that is erase all its content and lay down a new, fresh, clean system?

If yes, then in the SET UP menu, select FORMAT and press right, select media type (what ever memory it is you can cleaned/formatted), press either right or MENU/SET button. To confirm select YES with left or right and press again the MENU/SET button. Once it starts to format " Now FORMAT" displayed would be shown with a graph at the bottom indicating how much of the memory has been formatted and how many more to go.

If no, pls post back what is displayed in the screen.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Hi,

Yes and in several methods as below listed. Since your posting refers to a generic problem for all digital cameras and not only an Olympus FE-230, some of the settings may have a different nomenclature or button name.
1. When you download pictures to you PC, rather than copy, select move; or
2. If you want to erase one picture at a time from the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow down/up, you will be asked to erase the picture displayed, select yes/no by up/down, then press OK (menu button); or
3. If you want to erase all contents of the memory card of the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow right, down to select card, right to select card setup, right to enter card setup, arrow down to select format or erase all, OK. Erase all just erases the files, format erases all and re-initialize the memory card; or
4. Remove memory card from camera and insert into a memory card reader attached to USB of your PC. The memory from the camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.
5. Connect the camera via the supplied cable to any USB port of your PC. The camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.

Specifically for an Olympus FE-230:
1. Press the < or > buttons to display the picture you want to erase;
2. Press the trash can button (bottom right);
3. Press the UP button to select [YES], press OK;

or

To erase all:
1. Press the MENU button to display the top menu in playback mode;
2. Select [ERASE], [ALL ERASE], and press OK;
3. Select [YES], and press OK

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

You can use the MEMORY FORMAT functions to completely delete all images and options on the Memory Card, including protected images. * The format function restores the Memory Card to its initial state. * The Memory Card supplied with this camcorder has been formatted already. Attention If you execute the MEMORY FORMAT function, all images will be erased completely and erased images cannot be recovered. 1. Set the mode switch to MEMORY CARD. 2. Set the power switch to PLAYER mode. 3. Press the MENU button. 4. Turn the MENU DIAL to highlight MEMORY and press the ENTER button. The sub menu will appear. 5. Select FORMAT from the list and press the ENTER button. 6. "ALL FILES ARE DELETED! FORMAT REALLY?" appears on the screen. 7. Using the MENU DIAL, select the item. NO : To return to previous menu YES : To start formatting. 8. Press the ENTER button. If you selected the YES, COMPLETE! appears on the screen when the MEMORY CARD formatting is finished. 9. cards not working with camera

If you used the SD/MMC memory card in another brand of camera or device, you may need to format the card in your new EasyShare digital camera. (You may have noticed a "Memory Card Needs Formatting" message when you inserted the card.) CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card. To format the SD/MMC memory card or the internal memory of the camera: Transfer images to the computer before formatting the memory card. Press the camera Menu button. Highlight SETUP MENU, and then press the OK button. Highlight FORMAT, and then press the OK button. Highlight an option - MEMORY CARD (deletes everything on the card), CANCEL (exits without formatting), or INTERNAL MEMORY (deletes everything in internal memory). Press the OK button. Highlight Continue, and then press the OK button. Wait until formatting is finished before removing the card. When formatting is complete, the SETUP MENU is displayed. Press the Menu button to exit the menu.
