Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

SBS file replication error

I've com across a very undocumented problem recently with a Windows SBS2003 (2003 Small Business Server) I had a lot of FILE REPLICATION ERRORS in the EVENT VIEWER... and I also had a hard time to get the latest .net updates to go through... so I've done some research and it all came to a wonderful tool called .net cleaning utilities.

First I wasn't aware of the utility so when I saw that the .net update wasn't working I tried to UNINSTALL it with ADD/REMOVE programs... that was a fiasco... so I did some GOOGLEING and I found (ON THE MICROSOFT SITE) a tool called (.net removing tool) or something like that... as i was browsing the MICROSOFT site it actually offered me to FIX IT FOR YOU option so I did (I didn't care to much of a possible HACK since my SBS is a virtual machine) so if I screw up the server I can recover in less than a few minuts...

Conclusion!!! it was defitively the .net missing uptate that was causing the file replication error... and since the repared .net update there are no more file replication errors...

I hope this will shave of hours of GOOGLING for the next poor TECH that will come across this problem...

transaction replication is poosible in sql server devlper edition

SQL Server 2005 provides a lot of benefits over SQL Server 2000 including within the replication feature set.

You might be relieved to know that, although most of the benefits accrue on the side of a SQL Server 2005 Publisher, you can still set up SQL Server 2005 as a subscriber on a SQL Server 2000 Publisher. Thus, you can begin to merge in the newest release of SQL Server into an existing replication scheme. You can read more about this at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms217330.

Although major advantage to SQL Server 2005 over 2000 is that changes to the schema, such as through ALTER TABLE statements, replicate out to all subscribing servers. The cool news in a mixed version environment is that the ALTER TABLE statements will be published to SQL Server 2000 Subscribers from a SQL Server 2005 Publisher.

Very cool!

System State not successfully

This is common in the following OS.

• Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition (32-bit x86) • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (32-bit x86) • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise x64 Edition • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true: • You back up data from a volume that contains a Microsoft SQL Server database. • The recovery model of the SQL Server database is configured to use an option that is different from Simple.

You need to either use a Domain Account if you are using Windows authentication or you need to use SQL server authentication.
The reason for this is because the user account that you are using only exists on the machine that you are on not on the machine that you will be replicating to.
