Tip & How-To about Televison & Video
Your lamp in your LCD/DLP projection unit failed and you replaced it. Now the unit turns on, lamp lights, no fan and after a short time the lamp and set turn off. What could the problem be?
One thing which we know for certainty is that it is not the ballast or the lamp would not light at all and an error code would be displayed on the standby lamp.
I will list the possible problems in their order of probability.
The first thing you should do is go to
and use their search engine to locate parts for your model. They may or may not have a service manual for your unit. They have quite a few, which are downloadable as pdf files, but not necessarilly all of them.
I believe for this repair you should have the service manual. If encompass does not have it I recommend going to
to purchase one. They cost about $16.00 USD and are immediately downloadable.
With the service manual in hand locate any thermal fuses in the area of the lamp circuitry. Test any of these fuses with a DMM to see if they are open. If they are, replace them, and test your unit. If that was the problem your unit should be fixed.
If the thermal fuses are Ok go to my tip at
which explains how to identify any problems with the lamp door safety switch and how to repair them. If this is the problem your unit should now work.
If the unit still does not work you may have to reset the lamp timer for the projection TV to stay on. Not all models require this but some do. I have tips for all major projection TV manufacturers. Do a search on the FixYa tips and ask for "Lamp reset procedure for (enter your brand here)". This should bring up the appropriate reset procedure. Follow the instructions and your set should now be working.
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.
