Tip & How-To about Televison & Video
Generally speaking, it's a good idea to do your homework PRIOR to purchasing a Universal Remote Control. Make sure it's compatible with your device(s) and, if the product requires manual installation of codes, make sure the right ones for your device(s) are listed in the packaging, or a clear description of the means to find and install them are provided by the manufacturer and/or the dealer from whom you buy it.
Some of the higher priced remotes come with a USB cable and have the convenience of having codes automatically installed at the point of online programming, so no code search or manual installation is necessary. In the opinion of some (or even many perhaps), this convenience makes spending a little more well worth the extra outlay.
But, no matter what price you're willing to pay, it is my opinion that the most important prerequisite to check before you lay your money down is the compatibility between the remote and your device(s), and the ease of access to information to make the connection between them successful. Knowing these things is sure better than wondering why your remote doesn't work after you bring it home.
