How To Reset Your Blackberry Smartphone

Soft Reset

  1. Press and hold the Alt key.
  2. While holding down the Alt key, press and hold the Right Shift key.
  3. With both of those buttons still pressed, press the Backspace/Delete key.
  4. The display turns off to indicate that the reset has started, and the keys can now be released.
Hard Reset
  1. Remove the battery cover.
  2. Remove the battery, and then reinsert it after a few seconds.
  3. Replace the battery cover.
Factory Reset
The following will delete all data and applications on the BlackBerry smartphone. Back up the data on the BlackBerry smartphone before proceeding. The process for deleting all data and applications can take up to an hour to complete. Do not remove the battery while data is being deleted.


Note: To identify the version of BlackBerry Device Software on your BlackBerry smartphone, go to Options > About

BlackBerry Device Software 2.6
Note: If a password is already set, go to step 5.

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options. The Device Options screen is displayed.
  2. Click Security. The Security screen is displayed.
  3. In the Password field, press the Space key to enable the password. A dialog box will prompt for a password with at least four characters.
  4. Type a password. Click the trackwheel. Type your password again to verify it.
  5. On the Home screen, click the Lock icon. The Lock screen is displayed.
  6. Type your password incorrectly 10 times to trigger a security wipe.

BlackBerry Device Software 2.7

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options. The Device Options screen is displayed.
  2. Click Security. The Security screen is displayed.
  3. Click the trackwheel, and select the Wipe Handheld option.

BlackBerry Device Software 4.0

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options. The Device Options screen is displayed.
  2. Click Security. The Security screen is displayed.
  3. Click the trackwheel, and select the Wipe Handheld option.

BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 to 4.2.1

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Security Options > General Settings.
  2. Display the menu and select the Wipe Handheld option.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Type blackberry, and then press the Enter key.

BlackBerry Device Software 4.2.2 to 4.7

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Security Options > General Settings.
  2. Press the Menu key, and select the Wipe Handheld option.
  3. Select the Include third-party applications check box to remove third-party applications. Clear the check box to preserve third-party applications.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Type blackberry, and press the Enter key.

BlackBerry Device Software 5.0

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Security Options > Security Wipe.
  2. Select the appropriate check boxes to remove data and applications as intended.
  3. Type blackberry, and click Wipe.

BlackBerry Device Software 6.0

  1. From the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, click Options > Security > Security Wipe.
  2. Select the appropriate check boxes to remove data and applications as intended.
  3. Type blackberry, and click Wipe Data.

To reset a legacy BlackBerry device (Research In Motion® (RIM®) 850, 857, 950, 957 devices), insert the end of a paper clip into the small hole on the back of the device.

Note: A reset of a BlackBerry smartphone does not delete any settings or data.
There are two options for performing a reset: a hard reset and a soft reset.

To perform a soft reset, complete the following steps:
  1. Press and hold the Alt key on the BlackBerry smartphone.
  2. While holding down the Alt key, press and hold the Right Shift key.

Try this steps to perform soft reset

1)Press and hold down the ALT key on the smartphone.

2) While holding down the ALT key, press and hold down the right-hand CAP key.

3) With both of those buttons still pressed, press the DELETE key. The display on the BlackBerry smartphone will turn off to indicate that the reset has started, and the keys can now be released
