If you already are running XP with SP2 you do not need to reformat, just download and install SP3.

transfer files to a new computer?

From Maxtor's web-site, download the "MaxBlast" software.
Use it to "clone" your existing disk-drive onto your new disk-drive.
It works, and it works _very_ quickly.

Other than that, use the Windows "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" (under System Tools, under Accessories, under All Programs) to select what you want to copy (E-mail? contacts? Files? Music?) and to burn one "aggregate" file onto a DVD-recordable disk.
Then, use the same Wizard to "import" from that disk onto the new system.

Have an ACER netbook. It was running very slowly. Was told that there is zero space left on the hard drive and that a system restore is required. Would you please tell me how to do this? Thanks

Hi,

I recommend you have a quick look in your documents, music & pictures folders and clean out unused/unwanted files first.

System restore is a great tool but not usually the right tool to use to free up hdd space :)

If your running on Windows I also suggest running the Disk Cleanup wizard.

Win 7 / Vista : Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup.

Win XP : Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup.

Once DC has analyzed the PC it will come up with a set of options. It should be safe to select the following and Click OK to continue removing them.
  1. Temporary Internet Files
  2. Recycle Bin
  3. Debug Dump files (WIN 7 / Vista)
  4. Temporary Files
Once you click OK Windows will then remove these files from your HDD freeing up some space. Its always a good idea to run Disk Defragmenter afterwards to ensure optimum performance.

Win 7 / Vista : Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.

Win XP : Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.

Select your primary O/S drive (usually C:) from the list and Click Defragment. Wait for the Defragementer to complete (It might take some time :) ) then restart the PC.

Hope this helps

(for XP: Click on Start >> All programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Cleanup)
2. Click on My files, select C: and select all the boxex then click on next.
3. Click on OK to complete.

Then....

1. Click on Start, in the start search filed type disk %temp% and press enter.
(for XP, click on Start >> Run >> type %temp% and press enter)
2. Press Shift+Del for all the files or folders you see there.
3. Restart the Notebook and check for the issue.

For better help, post the product model and make. Also, the operating system installed in the system. Thanks...
