Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Can I try reinstalling Windows if my computer loses power during installation?

If your computer loses power during installation, Windows will attempt to revert to your current operating system. You can continue to use your current version of Windows, but some features might not work.

Before you try to install Windows again, troubleshoot and eliminate the problems that might have caused your computer to lose power.

Check power cables and power strips and replace any faulty parts. After you have done this, try installing Windows 7 again, and choose a custom installation (an installation that automatically replaces your existing version of Windows).
Warning

  • A custom installation deletes all of your settings and programs. Be sure to back up your files before you begin. After the installation is complete, you must manually reinstall your programs, and restore the files you backed up.

When your operating system stops working correctly, you might need to re-install it. In many cases, when you continue operating the same computer for years, installing and un-installing programs over and over again, sometimes certain operating system files don't work as well as they once did. When that happens, you can also start a re-installation of your operating system. If you use the same operating system for a number of years, it is often helpful to re-install the system software every now and then.

1. Put the original CD or DVD for the operating system in your CD or DVD drive.

2. Shut down your computer and restart the computer. Boot from the CD, if your system asks. This will start the installation process and will pause when a blue installation screen appears.

3. As the screen directs, press the "Enter" key to continue the installation process.

4. Press the "F8" key to continue the installation, agreeing with the Windows Operating System licensing agreement.

5. Press the "R" key on the next screen to attempt the repair process. This process will attempt to re-install all the operating system files that are on the installation disk without bothering any of the customization that you have done to your operating system. This process may take a few hours to complete, but when it completes, you should have Windows XP re-installed and working on your laptop.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Hi.
What you can do is to bring the computer back to time before installing XP Pro.
Go into Start - All Programs - Acessories - system Tools - system recovery and here choose according to the calender a piont/date before installing XP PRO.

The computer will be brought back timewise to a point/date of your choise.

It will take some time to do BUT JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS DURING THE RECOVERY.

Enjoy

The computer will continue to reinstall windows. It will say restarting installation, simply continue. If it stops again make sure you are using a good copy of OS CD and not a pirated one. Do a full format before attempting to install one.
