Fixing a Damaged SD Card in Android

The solution is: put the SD card in another phone (or a memory card reader), connect it to your computer as a disk drive, run a Windows disk check on it, backup its contents and then put the memory card back in your Android phone. Voilà!

memory card micro sd cannot format

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

how do u format sandisk microsd 2gb and microsdhc 4gb disks

You can only form sd Hc if your card reader is approved for SDHC use. It should tell you that on the outside of the card reader or in the documentation of the card reader.

If your drive isn't formatting 2gb, it could be that the driver was designed prior to 2gb cards being released. You could look for a new driver or replace it with a card reader that supports SD HC use as will as a 2 gb SD drive.
