Mobile Phone Tips & Tricks: network monitor

NETWORK MONITOR

There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-program some chips inside of your phone.

  1. Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.

  2. Take apart the phone.

  3. De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64).

  4. Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup).

  5. If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF".

  6. If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF".

  7. Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone,

  8. Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.

The Network Monitor gives you the following information.

  • Carrier number

  • MS RX Level in DBM

  • Received signal quality

  • MS TX power level

  • C1 (Path loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99.

  • RTL (Radio link timeout).

  • Timeslot

  • Information on the Network parameters.

  • TMSI (Temporary Mobile Subscriber Identity).

  • MCN (Mobile network code)

  • LAC (Location area code)

  • Ciphering (On/Off)

how can i use internet from wifi

Go to 'Start > Settings > Connections tab > Wi-Fi > Search for Networks'. You phone's Wi-Fi radio will be automatically turned on, and will search for available wireless networks. If, after a while, no network is found (e.g. the network you are trying to connect is hidden, i.e. doesn't broadcast its SSID), tap 'Menu > Add New...' You'll be prompted to fill in the Network name (SSID), and if the nettwork is hidden and/or ad-hoc (device to device). Tap 'Next', and fill in the authentication and encryption types, and the passphrase (if any). Tap 'Next' again, and fill in addtional data (if needed). Then, tap 'Finish'. Select the network you have just created and tap 'Menu > Turn On Wi-Fi'.
After finished, press 'Ok' as many times as needed to take you to the home screen. Launch IE and check if your internet connection is active.
Hope it works for you.
Anyway, please, let me know if you need further informations.
Regards, Carlos

my nokia n 95 wont send texts its been like this for days now i have restored to factory settings taken the battery out. it says too many applications are open but i only use it to text and call please can you help me.. i rang 02 and all he said was i dont know anything about nokia i have an i phone and told me to go on a search web and try and find out myself. i am a pensioner and feel it was really bad servic.. please can you help.

If it's overloading application, you can close the programs which are running in he background. Press and Hold down the Menu Button, active hidden programs will be displayed, you need to close them one by one. You can directly close them one by one, by pressing the C key after you highlight the program to be closed. Sometimes, this is not the problem with your phone, maybe with the message profile setting is also possible, Check whether your message profile is correctly configured, including the service number which is presented there if so Compare the number with your friends who is using the same network, and make the corrections, if this is not the problem, you should call the customer care of your service provider and place a complain regarding your problem. There might be mistakes that they had been made with your network settings from their system. Good luck.
