Steps how to clean scanner glass
1. Unplug the power cord.
2. Clean the outer case with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent and water.
3. If the document table glass gets dirty, clean it with a soft dry cloth. If the glass is stained with grease or some other hard-to-remove material, use a small amount of glass cleaner and a soft cloth to remove it. Wipe off all remaining liquid.
4. Ensure that there is no dust on the glass of the document table. Dust can cause white spots in your scanned images.
*** CAUTION: Do not press on the document table glass too hard.
5. Be careful not to scratch or damage the document table glass, and do not use a hard or abrasive brush to clean it. A damaged glass surface can decrease the scanning quality.
6. Never use alcohol, paint thinner or corrosive solvent to clean the scanner. These chemicals can damage the scanner components as well as the case.
7. Be careful not to spill liquid into the scanner mechanism or electronic components. This could permanently damage the mechanism and circuitry.
8. Do not spray lubricants inside the scanner.
9. Never open the scanner case.
***NOTE: Wipe the inside of the document cover and the scanner's document table before scanning transparencies.

Scan lines are generally due to dust or marks on the white reference strip under the glass at top end of the scanner plate.Or more likely in home use due to window cleaner being sprayed directly onto the glass finding its way under the glass at the top end of the glass plate were it runs under the plastic and onto the white reference paper which you cannot see till you remove the case. Then you will see either see dust marks or a nice big moisture mark. Which will well line up with were your streak marks are.
Once case is open turn over and you will see white reference strip, push with thumb at top end of plastic just above the glass you are going to have to break the glue seal so you can run a soft clean cloth between the glass plate and white reference strip. if you have to break the seal down the right hand side to get your cloth through so be it.
Donot scratch the white paper if you have to wet the cloth with glass cleaner to get glue or dust or wet mark out be gentle and let it dry before glass comes back into contact . Once marked streaks will never go away.
Clean dust or moisture with cloth. ( the thinnest you can find cotton underwear very good!)In future be careful with pressure when cleaning top of glass. Gently does it as the seal will now be weaker and dust easier to get back in.
It is very easy to accomplish honest.
2 extra comments to the above cleaning methods.
Firstly "lock the carriage" before turning over the machine it is located on the left side .
Cover is just held on by a a plastic hinge at back lift up to 90 degrees and run a eating knife! (well it was handy for me)down the back and prise off.
There are 2 phillips screws on back edge by bar code no need to remove one by usb input. Then case as mentioned just pops up from back. You will have to run a screwdriver or that knife along the side to push the case away from the carriage lock that you did lock right!
Misty glass on underneath of glass is due to heat and lamp by products building up . Time to remove if present.
Good luck

My scanner glass (Inside) is dirty / dusty and cauesing streaks on the photos. Now I noticed that another comment here says to remove 4 phillips screws on the underside - My scanner doesn't have any screws or clips that I can see. Would these be hidden under the foot pads? Need to get this cleaned.
Many thanks

Hi Again, Well just solved my problem. After unhooking the scanner I popped one of the leg pads off - No hidden screws. So I took a chance and use a small screwdriver and gently pried the back OUT and up - a gentle lift and it was off. If you use this tip, BE Careful since he circuit board is right there. The top case has a couple small '****' close to the bottom about 1" to the inside of each top lid slots and == 1" up from the bottom. The front has a couple also but are smaller and snap in last.
later.

Actually it's a very simple procedure! This this entire comment first...then start your procedures!
Disconnect the power cord, disconnect the USB cable, remove the top cover cable from the base by unscrewing the two plastic knobs, lift the top cover straight up. Place the top cover in a safe place.
On a clean, flat surface, turn the base upside down. On both ends you will find a total of four (4) black phillips head screws. Carefully unscrew these four screws and place aside. Carefully lift up the base and the top glass will separate from the base. Set the base aside. You have now exposed the inside glass for cleaning! It's that simple!!! Clean the glass by using a streak-free glass cleaner. Don't spray the glass, rather, lightly spray a clean soft lint free glass cleaning cloth, then wipe the glass. Don't press hard! Use good common sense1 There, you've now cleaned the interior glass. Reverse the procedure and you are finished. Wasn't that simple??

Never open the scanner case stopped me from having a go. But the dust is on the inside of my glass. I wiped the top with a clean cloth and all the dust flew up to the inside surface, so how do I deal with this please?
