Tip & How-To about Televison & Video

Lamp Reset Procedure for Samsung Televisions.

You have replaced your lamp and the set is working fine but the 'replace lamp light' is still on or the lamp light is blinking. What do you do?

This is an important procedure because you need to know when it is time to replace the lamp again. If you do not reset the timer you may run the risk of having the lamp explode, because it was not replaced in time. This can be dangerous and could cause a fire.

Manufacturers have lamp timers built in to their TVs so that when it gets close to time to replaced the lamp you are made aware of this and if you heed the warning you may save money by not damaging other components such as the ballast. If you do not heed the warning, you are on your own and deserve whatever happens.

To reset first make sure the TV is powered off.

1) Point your remote towards your TV.

2) Press MUTE + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.

3) Your TV should now say "Loading Factory".

4) Browse down to "Option" then press ENTER (or the right cursor button).

Note: The MUTE + 1 + 8 + 2 buttons need to be pressed down consecutively and fairly quickly. If your TV does not enter the service menu after using this combination, you can substitute MENU instead of MUTE. This seems to work for some sets. Also, the right cursor arrow acts as the ENTER button, so try it if you're having difficulty with the ENTER button.

5) To exit the service menu press the EXIT button or just turn the TV off. Do not turn on the TV immediately after. Let it off for several minutes.

This should reset your counter and you will be ready to enjoy your TV for about another 8000 hours.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.

have a mitsub. WD-73734 working fine this morning with white and black dots - replaced the chip and now the tv won't turn on, green light blinks raptly then the lamp light starts to blinks red/orange

Somehow--the lamp is not firing. Before you go get another bulb--check ALL of your work, and make SURE no connectors to the ballast have been left off or pinched somehow. It is easy to do this. Also, make sure the lamp door switch is making proper contact with the tab on the lamp door. You have already fixed a real problem with this set--do NOT give up so easily now!! ALso--make sure all fans are running. If ANY do not run--it WILL shut down. ANd make sure the color wheel connector has not come loose or been damaged somehow (this will be between the engine and the lamp area--likely have a "hump " raised in the light tunnel betwen the lamp and the engine--this is where the CW is). Even IF the ballast died (NOT likely at all), you can find one on ebay for under 100---and this set IS WORTH the repair. You will NOT be satisfied with some crappy flat-panel as a replacement.

WD-62525, continous amber lamp light. No picture. Lamp is good.

Hello:

Make sure u replace the lamp cover as the safety switch need to be closed to make the set work. If new lamp did not repair your problem , then it may well be the Ballast Board, Sometimes call the Lamp Driver.

replace lamp on 50' rca dlp and still no working.

Before replacing the Ballast I would look at the power-supply and see if you notice any of the electrolytic capacitors tops being bubbled. It is not uncommon for the capacitors to go bad as the lamp draws more current as it ages and fails. If you do see capacity's bubbled, Replace them or have them replaced and the set will probably work fine afterwards.
Hope this helps,
