How To Connect Flat Panel TV to Computer

Hello
First identify your TV's input connections. Most TVs these days have three basic types of inputs. You have your coaxial cable input, the same as your cable box or satellite, an RCA composite input (the yellow, red and white inputs) and an S-video connector. Newer televisions might have Component Video, DVI, VGA or HDMI inputs but the ones listed above are more common.
Identify your computer's outputs. These days computer manufacturers are adding TV compatible outputs on their products so it's easy to have a pc to tv connection when you hook it up. The S-video in particular seems to be popping up on more and more computers, so a PC to TV S video connector might be what you need. You can shop for S-video cables all over the place online. Mostly you will find the usual VGA output that the regular monitor hooks up to (see more later on VGA cables). The newer multimedia computers will probably have all high definition outputs that connect directly to your HDTV, but for now we will deal with what most people have for both computers and televisions.
Find the appropriate adapter for your connections. You may need to get a computer to TV cable so you can hook up your computer to the TV. If you have an HDTV, you may need a VGA to component cable. This VGA to component cable connects your computer to a HDTV and acts as a converter. (And that computer could be either a Mac or a PC.)
A PC to tv connector has a VGA adapter on one end and (usually) a selection of connectors on the other (S-video, RCA composite and Component). The good thing about these is that you can take it from TV to TV and you'll be able to hook up computer to TV for all of them. I highly recommend a wireless adapter. It costs a bit more but wireless is worth not having a big cable mess and not keeping your computer near your TV.

What kind of cable would I need to connect a DVD player to this combo, a RF Coaxial or AV cable?

Check the back of your TV for external input connections. Usually there will be one to three connections available for the various types of cables. Check the back of your DVD for the output connections, usually one to three as on your TV. Choose one and use the cable type that matches the DVD output and the TV input connections and you are done.

Take one co-axial cable, and connect the "input" port to your cable-company's wall-port.

Look at the connectors on the back of your TV. You could have:
* coaxial input (lowest video-quality)
* S-Video input (better video-quality)
* component input - three cables for video, two cables for audio (better video-quality)
* HDMI input (highest video-quality)

Look at the connectors on the "output" side of the PVR. You could have:
* coaxial output (lowest video-quality)
* S-Video output (better video-quality)
* component output - three cables for video, two cables for audio (better video-quality)
* HDMI output (highest video-quality)

Connect the "outputs" to the "inputs", using appropriate cables.

Turn the PVR on. Turn the TV on.

Use the "source" button on the TV's remote-control to select from the various inputs
(Coax, S-Video, Component, HDMI1, HDMI2).

If your TV has 'PIP' ("Picture-In-Picture") capability, connect more than one output to a second input, so that both tuners inside your TV will receive a signal.

how do I hook up my hp computer to my lg flat screen tv

You can use the TV's VGA port which needs a VGA cable which you can get from a computer hardware store. It's called RGB in on your TV. This is also called PC input.The max resolution you will get is 1,366x768 off your PC.

Where is the cable connection on my tv

There are usually two types of cables that connect to your tv-- coax and RCA. Cable usually uses the coax style, but some modern tvs don't have a coaxial input, which means they probably have RCA jacks. Therefore, you will probably have to find an RF modulator or the like that has a coax cable "Cable" input and RCA (yellow, white, and red plugs) output. These should be able to connect your tv to cable. I hope this helps, and good luck! Sincerely, Der Strom
