Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

USB Flash Drive | Write Protected

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
I have noticed similar queries that My USB flash drive is not formatting and showing the error that "The drive is Write protected" or something similar, although there is no protection latch or switch, So what to do.
There may be two issue one with the fat structure of the drive other with the components, if the hardware is damaged then there is no luck, but if the fat is damaged and windows is unable to format it, you can repair it with a nice and small tool.
Just download, extract and run this application to Repair your USB Flash drive.
Have resolved the Write protection issue on many drives with this, do share your experience as well.

Recently i am getting in the pen drive that i cannot do any format in the pen drive nor i cannot copy/delete the files in the pen drive. it was showing that "Windows was unable to complete the format" and "showing access is denied make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use." When i use the same pen drive in another system it is working normally. my laptop is ACER 4720 travelmate and recently installed WIN Xp. pls suggest

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Kindly try this solution:
  • Connect the USB stick to another computer and copy all the data.
  • Download this file (click here) to that PC and format the USB stick using this program.
  • Now try to connect the USB stick to your ACER laptop and see if it works.
If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to comment again. If this solution was helpful to you, kindly rate it.

Disk is not formatted transcend jf v10 16g

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
Before you can use a USB stick it needs to be formatted with a proper file system (such as NTFS, ex-FAT or FAT32). The error message you are getting suggests that the USB stick needs to be formatted. To format it simply plug it in a USB port on your computer and open up My Computer (or Computer in newer version of windows). Right click on the USB drive and select format. Click ok and you are done. If you are having trouble with the built-in format tool, you can use this third-party format tool (click here). If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to comment again. If this solution was helpful to you, kindly rate it.

unable to format the cruser pendrive

Far too often these little things have an almost invisible read/write protect button on them. Look carefully, over the entire surface of the USB Flash Drive. You might have this switch turned to Write Protect, which means there is nothing you can do, until you turn it the other way, and allow the device to be written to.

Cheers!
