Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

How to slipstream your Windows CD or DVD with updates/ service pack or drivers

Ever wish that when you reinstall windows that it did not require you to install the service pack afterwards or that you would like to include the drivers for your computer already in the windows dics so you just need that one cd/dvd. Many people I know do and all that is needed are a few things.

Hardware required:

dvd burner
cd or dvd to burn to

Software required:

nLite
Drivers or Service pack (depending on the goal)

After you download and install the nLite program it is fairly easy to use. Run the application and then select your default language. click next.

Place your Windows disc in your dvd drive and click browse on the screen then select the optical drive. once this is done the program will ask for a location to store the installation files. Create a new folder on your harddrive and call it Windows or whatever you wish. Clickign next will copy the files to the drive.

The next screen you will come to after the installation is copied is the Task Selection window. Click on Service Pack if you want to slipstream the service pack to the disc. Click Drivers if this is the goal. There are other options like making the setup unattended (meanig you can put the cd in partition the drive and let it do the rest itself). The last option you will want to do is to make a bootable ISO. The ISO will save to your computer and all your to burn right from nlite to your dvd burner.

When you do this, you select the service pack location on your hard drive. The same will happen with the drivers. Follow the on screen prompts as you do so and complete the wizard.

When you come to the "Bootable ISO" screen you have a choice. If this is the only copy of the disc you need you can select Direct Burn from the mode screen. If you want to use this image later you can select "Create image" and follow the on screen information to burn the disd then click Make ISO or Burn.

After this is all done you will have a Service pack and/or driver slipstreamed Windows Disc. You can also do this with additional updates/hotfixes as well.

Good luck.

need a key for windows xp service pack 2

The Microsoft "Service Pack 2" is just a collection of program-updates and security-fixes for either the "original" Windows XP, or for Windows XP with Service Pack 1 already applied.

As such, it does _NOT_ require any "key".

Note that it's probable that Service Pack 2 will _NOT_ install on a "bootleg" version of Windows XP (original or SP1), because the SP2 update includes the Microsoft "Windows Genuine Advantage" update.

Following is a link where you can get USB modem driver installation guide and driver.......but please make sure that you do not try to install this on SERVICE PACK 3.......because that will not install on service packs.........in case you have service packs for XP installed first uninstall ther service pack........then install the USB modem which is more or less smooth........and you can reinstall service packs afterwards without any conflict later on after the installation is complete.........this is the way I was able to install this modem driver on my PC.......
