Tip & How-To about Televison & Video
You turn on your big Sony projector one day and see yellow or blue dots on the screen. No amount of adjusting will get rid of them. What can you do?
You could replace the optical engine because that is the problem. The crystal panels are defective and starting to go bad. Alot of these units were made and they are failing on a regular basis now. If you want to tackle replacing the optical engine I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4251975-replace_dlp_light_engine which will help with the removal and replacement as well as where to get the parts at the best price. That will be the sticking point. The cost of an optical engine can be $350.00 USD or more (think Sony).
Another option would be to go to this site by Steve Linke at http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/ which is well written and describes the problem in detail as well as options which you may have with Sony.
In the end you will have to decide if you want to spend more than $350.00 USD on an optical block which may go bad in several years.
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.
