Tip & How-To about Televison & Video
You try to turn on your Sony TV and nothing happens. Then you notice that the standby light is blinking. Counting determines that it is three blinks about a second apart followed by about a three second pause.
Your problem is that the B+ over current protection circuit has been tripped. This is a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672. A better solution may be to replace the board. Let's face it, the board is as old as the TV. Replacing some parts does not change this. Fortunately these days circuit boards are not that expensive. I would recommend replacing the defective board. The board with all the power supplies in a Sony is generally the "A" board and contains the High Voltage power supply.
Two of the best places to get the board are http://www.encompass.com or http://www.shopjimmy.com . Prices are similar but both sites are trustworthy and will allow you to return the boards if they are not the problem.
If you haven't replaced a circuit board I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6981868-replace_circuit_board_in_modern_tvs which explains the process and should be helpful to complete the repair.
Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating. Please consider a testimonial. Thank you.
