Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Vent maintenance

This means you need to check all of the vents on your laptop at least once a week to ensure that they are clear and not blocked. Be sure you do not push anything into the air vents; the safest way to clean these vents typically is using a simple can of air that can be purchased at most computer supply stores.

hp laptop over heating

This could be due to where the unit is being used e.g. on a lap, bed or carpet, most units need the bottom to be clear so that it can cool, if this is blocked then it will overheat. Try checking vents to make sure they are not blocked.
Another possibility is the hardware is faulty and would need to be inspected by a local tech, if unit is still under warranty contact HP.

Hallo, I have a Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 2847 and I get unexpected shutdown in a different intervals. It may be for example 10 minutes or 3 hours after the Windows starts. The system is ready to start immediately. I am runnig Windows 7 professional SP 2. I am not sure whether it is a software or hardware problem. Thanks for answer.

It could be that the machine is overheating, if it's shutting down. Try ensuring that the vents are clear of obstruction, and that they are clean. If you can get to the cooling fan, then ensure that this is also clear. Don't use the laptop on your lap, as this tends to block the cooling vents as well.

It may also be worth checking to see if you get any error messages before it shuts down - in case it's something different (although I know that Windows 7 doesn't have an SP2 yet - so are you using Vista, or 7, SP1?)

dear sir, i am doing my lap top formatting, when i m inserting the Win Xp CD he take few minuets to store some files after that laptop become shut down. what is the problem in it. and its fan is continuously working what the problem.

Hi,
this issue may happen due to error in CD or with the failure of RAM, HDD, or any problem in Motherboard.

Try to format using another CD and check whether this helps. If no means you need to contact a service center for further hardware check.

Please let me know the status.

whilst wash on, water leaks from the underneath of washing machine. but cant see where it is coming from

if the water is leaking during the fill cycle when the detergent is being added from the drawer
ensure the draw is clear, if too much deturget rests has blocked the vent then water maybe running out on the inside.

if the problem is happening during the wash cycle this indicates a leak on your drum, ensure your door seal is intact and not leaking.

if the problem is during pumping, ensure that the pump is not causing a problem
maybe open the bottom vent and ensure the cover is seated properly and pump is clear.
also check the outlet pipe is not blocked or leaking and water is running back on the outside of the outlet pipe and under the machine

I hope this was useful.

dryer takes longer and longer to dry

The dryer vent may be partially blocked. First of all check the outdoor end of the vent to make sure it is not covered with something, in the north snow is often the culprit. If that end is clear, pull out the dryer and disconnect the vent pipe from the dryer then check inside with a flashlight to make sure it is clear. Remove any built up lint. that should do it.
