Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet
I would just like to share a program that has been VERY beneficial for the past several years keeping all (well, much) of the software I install up to date. It is the Secunia Personal Software Inspector and can be downloaded at:
Secunia PSI installed on your home computer will constantly monitor many software programs, such as Adobe, Microsoft, Java, and many more and notify you of available updates or patches for the software. For many it will even provide the link to get there. On the new 2.0 version, you can also turn on an Auto-update feature which makes it even easier.
These updates are important because many times vulnerabilities are found in out-of-date software which can compromise your system.
Secunia starts everytime you boot and connect to the web and will provide a listing of available updates and also end-of-life programs which vendors have stopped supporting. (Time to upgrade for those ones.)
Try it out today.
If you do not want to install the software, try the Online Software Inspector at:
Both are FREE and well worth it!
