Tip & How-To about Washing Machines
Many appliance problems are common to all appliance manufacturers' products. A good example of this is: "My washer won't stop filling", or "My microwave oven is dead".
But the solutions to most problems with appliances are brand-specific, and often, model-specific. For instance, the method used to remove the agitator from a GE washer differs significantly from that of a Maytag washer.
In addition, many components, like dryer thermostats, are universal in function; but differ in design for each brand of machine.
All of the experts here would agree that, in order to be of the greatest help to you, in answering your appliance questions, it is necessary that you include with your question, the model number of your appliance. Also, be as specific as you can in describing the symptom(s) that you're seeing. Following is an example of an appliance question that is on its way to a complete, and easy to perform, solution:
"After my Maytag washer, model number PAV6800AWW, fills,it will not agitate. I can hear the motor running, but there's no action. Is it worth fixing?"
