Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies

How to repair paper jams

Instructions

  1. Turn off the printer. As the printer shuts down, it will automatically attempt to remove any paper that is jammed.
  2. Pull any paper that is visibly sticking out of the printer. This can help to remove it if the paper is loose enough.
  3. Open the printer as you would to change the ink cartridges. Check inside to see if you can find the jammed paper and gently pull it out. You may need to remove the ink cartridges. Alternately, some desktop printers have a separate panel at the back of the printer that you can take off in order to remove jammed paper from the roller.
  4. Turn the printer back on and repeat the steps if necessary.
jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){ var $this = jQuery(this); $this.find('img').error(function(){ jQuery(this).remove(); $this.remove(); }); }); Tips & Warnings
  • Gently pull any jammed paper using both hands and avoid ripping. Tearing the paper may worsen the jam.
  • Avoid filling paper trays to maximum capacity in order to prevent printer jams and never use damp paper.

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Cup of distilled water
  • Clean wash cloth
    Fixing The Printer Cartridge
  1. Shut down the HP 6480 by pressing the "On/Off" button on the right side of the control panel. Some paper jams will clear themselves just by turning the printer off and starting it again. Wait a few minutes after the printer has shut down and then turn it on again.
  2. Remove the paper feed tray. If the printer does not clear the paper jam by itself, shut off the device again. Be sure to pull the tray out gently to avoid damaging the device.
  3. Lift up the automatic document feeder. The feeder makes up the top half of printer, and it can be opened like the hood of a car. Lift the sides of it slowly. This exposes the printer mechanism and ink cartridges. Pull the jammed paper up and out of the printer mechanism with both hands. Pull it gently to ensure you don't damage any components.

  4. After removing the paper, clean off the cylindrical, silver printer roller. Dampen a clean cloth with distilled water, and gently wipe any dirt, ink or paper off the roller. Rotate it when you're done cleaning one side, and continue rotating and cleaning until the roller is clean on all sides.
  5. Close the automatic printer feeder. After removing all paper, close the top printer feeder and shake it to ensure it's fastened. Re-attach the printer tray by lining it up with the arrow markers on both sides of the printer.
  6. Put one sheet of paper into the printer tray, and reset the HP 6480 by pressing and holding the "On/Off" button for 15 seconds. The printer should automatically restart and return to factory settings. It will run diagnostics and the printer cartridges should begin moving again as they print a test sheet.

ecblank.gif The most current driver for this product is already included in the Windows XP Operating System. Currently there are no updated drivers available. Follow the instructions below to correctly install your printer.

    NOTES:
Select "Oki Data ML 320 Turbo/D (IBM)" from the XP CD.

The ML390/1 Turbo Printers are not on the current XP CD. Please use the IBM Proprinter or Epson LQ driver for these models.

The driver should automatically install once the printer is connected to the computer and powered on. If it does not automatically install, then do the following:

    1. Click Start, then Control Panel.
    2. Click Printers and Other Hardware or Printers and Faxes.
    3. Verify that the printer icon is not already installed
    4. Click Start, Turn Off Computer, then Turn Off to shut down the computer.
    5. Connect the data cable either USB or parallel. If it is not then continue to step 5.
    6. Turn on the printer.
    7. Turn on the computer.
    8. The printer will now be automatically detected

system error E000 how do I fix it. I tried what it said in the instructions to turn it off for a while then turn it back on that didn't help. Canon NP6025 copy machine.

To delay the 3 second shut down and enable the technician to access service mode; open the front door and pull out the transport unit. Do not actuate front door microswitch. Press the service mode button, enter " * 4 * ", scroll to error clear and clear error code. Machine will automatically turn off power after clear. Power up machine and test.
If the power shuts down after error code has been cleared, the cause of the error has not been corrected. Correct cause of error code and clear error in service mode.
