Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Avoid disaster in your PC:Create a bcak up!

With this simple steps you can avoid and prevents loosing you data when a system crash.

1-Create an Drive Image

This lets you restore your PC to a like new if a disaster strike.Technically you only need the system image only once. But in case you need a replace,it going to be your Superman savior.I use a great freeware like Macrium Reflect Free (www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp).It let you store the files in any device like DVD,external drives and network drives.

These days, more and more people are using computers to store memories, important documents, and various other bits of information that may need to be kept for long periods of time. Backing up a computer is essential for keeping long term (or even short term) documents around.Decide on the proper backup media for your needs. CD-R, DVD+-R, tape, hard drives (internal and external), online, and flash drives are all great choices, but the right tool for the job is always best. Do some research on the advantages of each, and choose the one which will best suit your needs.Choose a back-up program. For personal computers, there are many options. If you are using Microsoft Windows, there is a back-up program built in (Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Backup). You can also use third party back-up managers, ranging from small programs to full online backup services. If you use a flavor of Linux, there are many open source options available in repositories for all of the major distributions. This is a most when data needed to restore your files.AceBackup (www.acebackup.com/) is among other a great tool to backup your data.
3-Keep your back-ups in a safe place away from environmental hazards. Depending on how important it is, fire safes and safety deposit boxes are great places to keep back-up media. If they are not very critical, filing cabinets or desks are fine places.

  • Do not use a computer while a back-up is in progress. If you change a file during the back-up operation, you will not know which version was actually saved, or you could halt or corrupt the back-up. It will also slow your computer down.
  • Do not leave your back-up media in an environment that has a tendency to get wet or is not climate controlled. Computer equipment is fairly sensitive, and there is a chance you will lose your back-ups.

You will loose all data you have put on the computer. When you turn it on right at the beginning there is a black screen and there are a few f key options.
They will flash up with the option when you turned it on, before windows kicks in. Take a look at the user manual to find out for sure.
Press the correct f key before windows starts up, then go through the menus in setup (it will look all crappy and dos like) and find restore factory settings (or something like that) and click yes.
It's a great feature, and will completely kill any virus or **** problems you have had and couldn't get rid of.
Hope this helps. I would appreciate your feed back as I do this for fun not pay.

how do you restore an acer 5738 to its factory settings

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.
