Tip & How-To about Cameras

The most important ever tip about a new digital camera or camcorder

Do NOT throw away any of the contents of the box.

That's it- the most important tip for your new camera.

In Fixya, a large proportion of the questions we see start out- "I lost the CD that came with my camera. How do I download pictures to my computer?"

Another popular category is- "I lost my manual- how do I do this that or another common camera task?"

Occasionally we see- "I lost my charger. How do I charge my camera?"

Really? You "lost" it?

A digital camera is almost useless if you can't get the pictures onto a computer to show or print them. A camcorder almost as much so, though some can play back through a TV (if you haven't lost the cable).

Sometimes you can download a copy of the manual, and/or some of the software, for some cameras, but not all. Some makes simply don't have a website offering such downloads. Others may only offer software updates, but not the main drivers/applications that came on the CD, or there may be conditions. If you want to download drivers for a Sony camcorder, for instance, you may be asked for the code that was printed on your original CD. Otherwise you may have to PURCHASE a replacement!

Avoid all this hassle- just keep the stuff safe.

purchase gears

This is an inexpensive, light duty shredder. Products such as this are considered 'throw-away products' ; when they break, you throw it away and buy a new one. Larger, more expensive commercial shredders are repairable.

jelly did not jel

If the jelly did not gel, then it is time to throw these out.
If the jelly you speak of is a food jelly, then check to see if the triple point has been reached. Pectin will allow it to gel once it is present in the right proportion, the pH and the sugar content is right.

Place several large boxes of Baking Soda in unit for several weeks. Throw away after two weeks and replace with new boxes until smell goes away.
