Tip & How-To about Cell Phones

Nokia Firmware Updates

Hello, this is a tutorial explaining which steps you should follow in order to perform a firmware update or "Flash" on you mobile phone.

What you will need to do this Procedure:

  • USB data cable
  • Nokia PC Suit
  • Nokia Software updater
In this tip the link for both PC suit and Updater will be provider for download.

Step 1:

You will need to backup all the data on your phone before you start doing anything else. You can either do the backup by following either the steps below:

  • If you have a memory card in your phone, you can do the following: Tools>Memory select options>Backup phone memory. Once the backup is complete, remove the memory card from the phone.
  • You will also be able to backup your phone using Nokia PC Suit. Once you have installed it, you will need to connect your Phone to your computer using the USB data cable. Once the phone and the computer is connected, you will have an option to backup the phone data.
At the links below, you will be able to download Nokia PC Suit and Nokia Software Updater.

Nokia PC Suit
Nokia Software Updater (To download the correct version for your phone, you will need top select your phone model)

Step 2:

Before you start the actual firmware update, you will need to charge your phone, to ensure that the phone will not disconnect during the updating process. If the battery does not have the sufficient charge, the process will not start.

Step 3:

Since Nokia PC suite is already installed, you will now need to install Nokia Software Updater. Once the install is done, you might need to check your Firewall settings to ensure that there will be no data blocked or filtered during this process. Click HERE to see how to set firewall settings.

Step 4:

From now on it's really simple, just follow the guide and you'll be fine. The whole updating process takes several minutes to complete, don't try to cancel it in the middle in any case, your risk damaging your phone. You will need your USB cable in this step.

Step 5:

Lastly you will need to restore the backed up data once the update is compete. Again, this can be done in two

  • if you used a memory card for backup then you simply go to the Tools - Memory select Options - Restore from card; if you used Nokia PC Suite you have to connect your phone to the pc via USB cable, select Backup and Restore
And then you are done.

I really hope this can be of help. Please feel free to share your thought and advise.

Kind regards

Updating the software or firmware on your mobile phone can fix some unstable problems with cell phones.
Cell Phone Firmware Flashing
Cell phone firmware flashing is the process by which a user upgrades a phone's mobile operating system or internal memory applications.

Flashing can provide a brand-new version of a mobile OS or simply provide bug fixes when phones are having specific issues.
Types of Upgrades

Upgrading an operating system, such as moving from Google Android 2.0 to Google Android 2.1, is the first function of firmware updates. Installing better-performing software is the second type of upgrade.
New mobile operating systems typically offer advanced features and better-performing systems (faster, more streamlined functions).
Software updates often fix hardware and software issues, such as increasing the strength of a phone's GPS or increasing cell phone reception and email capabilities, among other new features

Misconceptions Flashing a phone will not "unlock" your phone.
It will also not remove carrier restrictions placed on the phone.
Flashing a phone will also not turn your phone from CDMA to GSM or vice versa, since this requires hardware modifications.

Be sure to flash your phone on a full battery.
A partial flash when a phone turns off can lead to phone "bricking," in which the phone will stop operating completely.
In most cases you can simply reflash the device; in others, you will have to send the phone in for repair.

Illegal Uses

In order to perform a cell phone unlock on some carrier-specific devices, you will be required to perform a firmware flash.
This "flashing procedure" is most often seen with various iPhone "jailbreaking" methods.
Typically, this type of flashing is not allowed by the manufacturer and is considered a "hack."
By replacing the manufacturer's OS with a hacked OS, it becomes possible to unlock the phone.
