Tip & How-To about GPS
Problem: My Magellan Triton GPS Does Not Attach To My PC.
Solution Applies To: Magellan Triton 200 300 400 500 1500 2000 and Windows Operating Systems XP, Vista (32 and 64 byte) and Win7.
Author Note: This is a problem that can happen to any user. This test will confirm that your GPS is not the problem but that the problem lies in the installation of VantagePoint or the Windows Operating System.
Testing Procedure:
The trick is to first make sure that you can attach the GPS to the PC.
This test is simple.
uninstalled the VP and delete the c:magellan drivers directory. Go into c:program filesMagellanVantagePoint and delete the VantagePoint directory and all its subdirectories.
Now do a hard reboot. This is where you completely shut off your computer.
Reinstall VantagePoint 1.94.[You can find this program on my website http://www.jungleghost.com]
After the installation do another hard reboot. This will set up your registers.
Now look at c:magellan drivers to make sure that the directory has been recreated. Go to VP LITE ICON on the bottom of the screen do a right click and uncheck the Lite start up at boot and QUIT.
Now so another hard reboot.
NOW FOR THE TEST.
With VP TURNED OFF and no other Magellan Programs running. Attach the GPS to the PC and turn it on and select under MENU>>VIEW>>SETTINGS .. Connection "Connect to PC". [You may have this choice when you first start the GPS and it is attached to the PC.]
If you CANNOT CONNECT at this point to the PC then you have a corrupt ID software on the internal memory.
If so, return to the unit to the dealer or Magellan, it is defected.
