Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Extend your battery life

Portable productivity on the cold, cruel and often e-outletless often depends entirely on how much juice you have left. The screen draws more battery power consumption. When you do not have access to the outlet, the display will dim the lowest setting, so that the battery will last as long as possible.

general inverter question. Running off of a car battery do I keep the car running or just juice the battery every now and then to keep the battery from dying:

Automotive batteries are designed for a quick draw of amperage (when starting) and then get constantly recharged using the alternator when driving. If you are using an auto battery for inversion, it will drain much quicker. Depending on how/where you are using it, you could charge the battery when a meter shows a voltage drop. Better recommendation would be to use a marine battery, which is a deep cycle battery. Deep cycle batteries last much longer between charges, as they are designed to have a constant draw (trolling motors, etc.).

Hi, my 95 honda accord lsi 2.0 doesnt start, couple days ago it hardly started in cold weather, and today it just didnt started at all. Could it be a gas filter, or maybe candles, or gus pump ??..what should i do ??

Have you tried checking the battery? Try to give it a jump with another car. Cold weather kills car batteries FAST. Does the car crank over at all? Or does it just make a clicking sound without actually turning the motor? If jumping it gets it started, replace the battery and you shouldn't have any problems. Batteries typically last between 2-5 years depending on their use, if you have a lot of sick car audio and electronics pulling juice, it will cause a "deep cycle" which car batteries were not designed for and that will kill them quick too. If replacing the battery works for a while, but then it dies soon thereafter, you might need to start looking for possible short circuits or current draws. Hope this helps!

Definitely sounds like a starter. When a bad starter is cold, it will start the car. After riding around for a while or after several starts in a row, the starter heats up and won't start without a boost. Since you've ruled out the battery and alternator, I'm positive a new starter will solve your problem. Good Luck!

Sounds like you left it too long without starting in the first place.
It's possible that you had just enough juice in the battery for the one start. Even leaving it run for a while might not put enough of a charge back to start again.
If it was a very cold night or several cold days then most of the battery could have discharged. Release the battery terminals & put some vasiline or petrolium jelly on the contacts then re-attach the terminals. This should help prevent further discharging.
Either the battery is old & in need of reconditioning or replacement or you may have a leak somewhere. Sometimes alarms can draw a lot of power from a battery if left too long.
Try another battery or see will it start no problem with a pair of jump leads attached to a car or truck.
This should tell you very quickly.
