Tip & How-To about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router
Less than one month after installing my new wgt624 I began experiencing the problem. It was always trying to identify my network. Netgear tech support was useful once, alas it was back to rip my hair out the next day. After going round and round with their FOREIGN techs, who knew nothing more than how to read a 1 through 10 list of things that could be wrong, I was told that my router was defective and I had to pay to send it back to them to be replaced. After being lied to for over two weeks I was not going to trust them to be honest at this point. A very intelligent geek friend of mine asked for it ,since it was useless to me anyway, to flash it and make a repeater, well he actually found the problem. DO NOT turn on the automatic update feature on the router. It works on the third firmware upgrade, yet it will automatically download the fourth version, which will block the router up like the Berlin Wall. When you go on the update website it even tells you not to use version four on your wgt624. It turned out to be a simple fix that the entire Cisco foreign legion could not figure out but one coonass from south Louisiana picked up on in one hour.
Good luck users
