Tip & How-To about Computers & Internet

Outside factors that affect connection speeds Unfortunately, there are events and conditions that are outside your control. Even with a fast connection, external factors, such as busy websites or spreading computer viruses, can slow the entire web. Popular websites can become overwhelmed with users. For example, when a television commercial mentions a website, many people might try to visit the site at the same time. If the website isn't prepared to handle the traffic, you might encounter delays. During times of heavy computer virus outbreaks, the Internet can slow down. Many viruses spread by causing computers to send out hundreds or thousands of copies of the virus. This can slow the Internet by sheer volume. You can see what major outbreaks are currently happening by visiting your antivirus vendor's website, or the Security at Home website. Local Internet congestion can also result in slower-than-normal connection speeds. These slowdowns occur when many people try to connect to the Internet at the same time, and they occur most often at peak activity times, such as after school hours when students get home and connect to the web. If you're on a corporate network, general network and proxy server use can affect your Internet performance. Most network administrators monitor Internet use, and will try to keep people from doing things like downloading large files during peak hours. If you find that your Internet access is slow at times, you might discuss it with your network administrator.

when the car is at operating temperature and the outside temperature is hot the car will not start

The car is obviously itself running at an above average tempareture thus adding to the effect of the outside tempareture having an influence because their is not enough cool air outside to cool down the engine fast enough and probably one or two electronic components are being affected by the intense heat as heat is a major problem in all electronic components causing them to break down, especially within a hot engine compartment of a motor vehicle.Contraction and expansion is what causes the fluctuation within the component's performance. This could very likely be an erratic electronic contact, and in the event of a carburettor model could also be a hot mechanical fuel pump. Try pouring water at a slow rate over the various components like the electronic module, some of the sensors on the engine, Hold a cool wet rag over the airflow meter, and place a cool wet rag around the distributor, the coil, etc.Sometimes even a hot relay switch can be a headache. As you go along try starting the car again after each cooling session on the various components and you will eventually find out which one is the problem. Good luck.

Internet connection speeds much slower when LAN is routed through a router as opposed to directly linked to the modem?

Depending on the Wireless device, speeds differ with the protocol a bit. A cable/hardwire connection will always be a faster. I would not get to hung up on speed test software, there are many factors when using different one's , your speed will vary wildly, form one to another. Your dealing with ALL the outside ISP equipment you have no control over. If you go to 10 different "Speed Test" software websites, you will get 10 different Uploads speeds, and 10 different Download speeds. Most of this is due to Outside equipment. You just may be Obsessing over something you can't control, but I could be wrong. Maybe your ISP is "throttling" your signal? http://www.pcworld.com/article/158552/check_ISP_speeds.html
