Tip & How-To about Office Equipment & Supplies
All printers are bound to encounter a paper jam.
Symptoms:
There are rollers to pick up paper and roll it to print head and by time
dust from environment and paper coats those rollers and applied
pressure makes it slide. The same dust also clog paper sensors so
printer thinks it got either no paper or paper jam.
Another reason for jams are foreign objects (paper clips, food, etc..)
Precautions:
Please note that all procedures mentioned here are to be done while printer is off and don't forget that laser printers use heat so be careful while touching printer objects.
For any reason, if you're hands are contaminated with ink or toner, clean them well.
Action:
Follow manufacturer instructions regarding both paper type and maximum paper capacity for the tray.
By Turning printer off, open or remove paper tray and/or printer door to access toner or cartridge and remove any visible foreign objects (remove toner cartridge in lasers). Don't forget that if paper is visible in one piece,
pull it slowly with both hands on the corners.
In case of paper out message and no visible paper, it's time to clean paper sensor(s) by blowing some air from a pressurised source.
On the other hand, you may clean paper rollers with a slightly damped
lint free cloth by rubbing. This procedure may solve paper pick up
problems.
If all of this didn't work for you, perhaps its time to contact service.
Good luck and happy printing.
This is sort of scenario could be caused by dust inside the
printer. Dust prevents the rollers from having a firm grip on the paper while
picking paper. When one roller has a firm grip and rolls the paper well while
the other doesn't, jam/crumpling results or sometimes paper goes in at an angle.
So I will suggest you get a long handle brush and try to reach as far inside
the printer as possible and brush (from the back and front; if you have a
blower please use it as well). This, if properly done should do it. Brush
especially the rollers etc.
Good luck and God bless!
