Tip & How-To about Health & Beauty

Fragrances tend to react differently to our bodies as we age

Fragrances also tend to react differently to our bodies as we age. So many people have told me that their favorite scent of 10 or 20 years ago just doesn't smell the same on them today as it did in the past. So keep it fresh and try out new scents!

What type of fragrance lasts the longest when sprayed? For example: toilette, parfum, body spray (like at Bath& Body Works)... etc. Also, any advice on how to keep the fragrance from "fading" so that the scent lasts the whole day?

The concentrate always last longer....oil-based fragrances are also long lasting..this is evident with "attar", which is arabic perfume oil....very snice smelling...although tooo much of it can get to your head....about the scent lasting the whole day...i believe its not possible...although some fragrances last longer on some skin types...your best bet is to keep trying the ones you like and see which lasts longer....or you can re-sprray during the day....lighter scents for the day time and sweet scents for the night time....

A friend told me that a prefume can sometimes influence moods..it is true?

Yes, various studies show that fragrances can influence moods. Some studies show the impact scents have on moods may come partly from memories they invoke. Therefore, a mood change may vary from person to person or at different times. A pleasant fragrance can both soothe and stimulate.

How does the color of your hair make a difference?

Blondes -- with a fair skin will be happiest with long-lasting multi-floral creations. Their skin is often dry causing fragrances that are too subtle to evaporate rapidly. Brunettes -- usually have medium-to-dark skin which contains natural oils, allowing scents to last longer. Dramatic orientals are often favorites. Redheads -- have extremely fair and delicate skin which may be incompatible with fragrances which have predominant green notes.

Is it important to change fragrances according to the different seasons of the year?

Yes, since heat increases the intensity of a fragrance. There are certain fragrances that are more appropriate for summer and other stronger scents that would be better for winter use. A good guideline to follow is to wear lighter scents in the summer and stronger in the winter. Citrus scents are perfect for summer while orientals are better for winter.

How do natural perfumes differ from synthetic perfumes?

It took centuries to evolve ways of extracting scent from aromatic materials. While the synthetic fragrances can sometimes approximate the dominant qualities of the natural essences, they cannot capture the same subtlety or softness, nor can they mimic the way natural perfumes evolve on the skin, uniquely in response to body chemistry.
