Don?t perfume ALL your pulse points

Don't perfume ALL your pulse points. You might just over do it, so choose carefully. Madame Coco Chanel did say, "Put on perfume where you'd like to be kissed." Advice from an expert should never be ignored. Three sprays for Eau de Parfum or five sprays from Eau de Toilette perfumes should be more than enough.

what is the shelf life of opened and unopened perfume and how can you tell if you are buying "old" or "outdated" perfume? the lady at the dept. store says that they "rotate" their stock and that the old stuff is what you get at the discount places...and that exposure to heat, air, and time changes the scent! with the cost of fragrances going for $65 to $150+, i would like to not get ripped off! please help!

Hi there,

According to this website:

Perfume has a shelf-life of 3-5 years.

If the box is opened then the perfume will be more exposed to sunlight which can speed up evaporation from the bottle and could cause changes to the color and scent.

Keeping your perfume in a cool dark place will help it to preserve its color and scent.

I agree with the dept store lady that exposure to heat and light will cause damage to the perfume but if it comes in a box that has not been opened then the damage should be minimal, especially if it's a popular scent that doesn't stay on the shelf for long.

Best wishes,

My husband bought Chanel No 5 and i was very excited. However there is no smell after initial spray within minutes n feel cheated as other perfumes are so gorgeous smell hours later so had i become a victim of fake or old stock.Bough t it at a pharmacy carrying many other brands. Please help.

return the perfume to the pharmacy it maybe a faulty bottle they should replace it if not write a letter to Chanel Perfumes (there should be an importers address on the box) and explain the situation and that your dissapointed 9 out of ten times they will replace it if it means keeping a customer happy, its worth a try

What is a "nose"?

nose is a person who creates fragrances. There was a time when the job of perfume-maker was handed down from father to son but times have changed and now there are several schools dedicated to the science of perfume-making. At this time only three major French perfume-makers (Chanel, Guerlain, and Jean Patou) have their own in-house blender. The image is a picture of a nose at work.
