How to Test a Remote Control With a Digital Camera.

Turn on your camera to view the display on the LCD screen. Point the remote control to the camera's lens. Press the remote controls buttons and observe on the camera's LCD screen or viewfinder that the remote control emits infrared lights from the transmitter IFR light. If you don't see any lights on the camera's LCD display from the remote control, then the remote control is bad.

Remote does not send signal to tv

Gather up all the remote controls that you think are not working and a digital camera.Turn the digital camera on, all you need to do is look at is the digital screen while performing the process. No need for turning off all the lights (but may be helpful in seeing the IR signal).
Point the remote towards the lens of the camera as you would when pointing the remote towards the TV.Press and hold any button on the remote while viewing the screen on the camera. Note: some buttons may not transmit signals via default. Best button to try first is the power button. While holding the button on the remote and viewing the digital camera screen if you see a blueish light, that means the infrared signal is working properly, there is a problem with the direct connection (if its a universal remote, try setting it up, if its not, you're probably not pointing it correctly).

i have a sony KDL26L4000 26" and for a unknown reason it wont turn on when using remote i have tried new batteries you have to press up on remote control or 1 on remote control and the green led keeps blinking on and off and flashing all the time instead of just staying green. hope you can help

It sounds like the key on the remote is stuck. In your case, if you see the flashing light on the camera screen without pushing any button, then for sure one of the button is stuck.
Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera’s Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera’s screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.

why doesnt my inferred pickup work on my goodmans gtvl19w17hdf.

Have you replaced the remote control batterys?
If you have and need to verify if they are working, you need a digital camera and a dark room. Turn on the digital camera and then point your remote at the lens and press any button. if the remote is transmitting the LCD screen on the camera should show it flashing.
If you see that then you know your remote is operating next go to your tv and try to access the menu and retune the tv.

maybe you have changed the mode to "Remote control" - it's the button on top with multiple pages on it (in front of the AF button)
If a remote is shown on the LCD press the button until [S] is shown
