Travel Overseas with an iPod Touch

As we know the AppleiPhone and iPod touch are great multimedia players on the go if you live in theiTunes ecosystem, many of us have a ton of videos which have to be converted toplay of Apple's mobile devices. The new VLC Media Player for the iPhone andiPod touch now enables you to play a variety of video files on the go. The VLC Media Playeris already on the Apple iPad and the new app will bring much of thatvideo-playing goodness to your iPhone or iPod touch through an ipad video converter. It's not quite as simple as just dragging and droppingmovies and television Given that, rather than facingexorbitant cell-phone roaming charges, we can travel to Europewith just an iPad and an iPod touch. Though that meant that we could only lookup restaurants or things to do when we were in a free Wi-Fi . And rather thanbeing tethered to Facebook updates, we both paid more attention to the scene athand.
Over the course of eightnights, I stayed in six hotels that all had free Wi-Fi access. Here's what Ilearned about traveling overseas with the fourth-generation iPod touch:

The iPod touchis an affordable way to stay connected while on the road. For the newest8GB version with FaceTime, the iPod touch starts at $229, compared to theiPad's $499 starting price tag. Since there is no data plan for the iPod touch, you don't have to worry about incurring a monthly bill. Also, since bothdevices are light and compact enough to carry, I didn't have to fret aboutleaving a laptop in our luggage, which we left with the hotel's front deskduring the day before moving on to the next one. Though I normally travel witha netbook or an ipod touch or an ipad because we can get the videos to our ipador ipod touch easily and timely with an
ipad converter software to back up digital photos and clear memorycards, I solved the memory problem by bringing 18GB's worth of SD cards, whichwas more than enough even when shooting RAW files.
What's more, Sometimes the iPod touch was able to log onfaster than the iPad. For whatever reason, we sometimes couldn't get theiPad to connect right away. Having two devices that could access the Internetalso proved invaluable when plotting our next destination. I used the iPodtouch to check simple things like the weather, the time (I still don't wear awatch), and the train schedule. Apart from this, some hotels used a computer system to print out a uniqueWi-Fi code for our stay. Other hotels used our passport number to create apassword. One downtown hotel gave us a username and a password that we could usewhile sitting in the attached cafe. Even after we checked out, we'd stop bythat cafe to order a coffee, rest our feet, check our e-mail, and look uprestaurants. At one hotel, we were given a code for one week of complimentaryWi-Fi access. So owing to theseconvenient and assured supplies for us, why don't we have a try to traveloverseas only with an ipod touch?

my ipod touch screen is cracked but everything works perfectly

Is it the glass or the display beneath the glass? Cost will depend upon which of these is broken. There are many mail-in services available online, ifixit.com comes to mind. If you are a do it yourselfer, there are tons of videos and step by step instructions out there as well. I recently purchased an LCD display from ebay for an ipod touch, took me about 15 minutes to R&R the part for the device after reviewing videos on youtube.

I just got an idj2. I downloaded the firmware. I went through the library process, though I'm not sure what that really did other than take a ton of time. I hooked my ipod touch (16 gig) to the idj2 and it just tells me, "There are no connected devices to browse content from". Nothing in the instructions addresses this issue. Thanks, Dan

Located at http://www.numark.com/idj2 there is a link called iPod compatibility matrix v1.6 this link tells you which versions of the iPod work great with the idj2 and which versions of the iPod make you want to pick up your idj2 and smash it against a brick wall. Sadly, the iPod Touch falls into the "smash" catagory.

Generation 1 iPod Touch devices can only be used in "DIRECT MODE ONLY" which means you can use them like a cd player or as a music source on 1 channel of the mixer of the idj2.

Both Generation 1 and Generation 2 iPod Touch devices are not supported to be used with the idj2 in "MASS STORAGE MODE".
