Tip & How-To about Clothing Accessories

Choosing the right shoe size

Give yourself enough time to shop for your walking shoes. You need to try several pairs of shoes on and walk around the store in them. Make sure not to rush this process. The time to discover that a certain style of shoe hurts your feet is when you are still in the store.

Is it a good idea to buy two pairs of walking shoes?

Walking shoes can be expensive, but it's a good idea to buy 2 pairs if you can and to alternate between them as it gives the shoes time to bounce back between walks.

When I buy new walking shoes, should I wear them to go walking straight away?

No - I wouldn't wear new walking shoes straight away. You need to wear them in a bit. I always wear my new shoes around the house for a few days. This has the advantage of letting you figure out if they are going to be good for you before you head out walking and get blisters etc. also if you some reason you want to exchange the shoes, the shop won't take them back if they are scuffed from having been worn outside.

Is there a time of day that it is better to buy your walking shoes?

It may sound weird but it's actually better to go shopping for walking shoes at the end of the day or after a walk, when your feet will be more swollen and more realistic as to how they are while walking. Also make sure you wear the same socks that you normally wear while walking.

How to select a good walking shoes? Coul dyou recommend me on a good pair?

People are always asking for shoe recommendations. I don't like to make specific shoe recommendations because everyone's foot is different and people have different walking styles. But there are a few basics for selecting walking shoes: 1.Look for a low, supportive heel that rounds (or bevels) in. A thick heel or one that flairs out will cause your foot to slap down rather than roll. 2. A walker's foot hits heel first and then rolls gradually from heel-to-toe. So, you will need a flexible sole and more bend in the toe than a runner. 3.Next, look for a shoe that is light weight and breathable. The last thing you want is the clunky heavy leather walking shoe.
4. The most important thing of course is a shoe that fits properly. Be sure your foot has enough room in the toe box. There should be a thumbnails width (or about a half inch) between your toes and the end of the shoe.5. Go shoe shopping at the end of the day or after your walk when your feet may be slightly swollen. 6. Do not shop when you are in a hurry. 7.Wear your shoes in the house for a few days to try them out.
