Tip & How-To about Dishwashers

Rinse the plates befor you insert into a dishwasher.

This will stop most problems, I have personally seen hundreds dishwashers with plates and pots with alot of food still on them clogging up dishwasher drains and the other works, not only is this unsanitary it will cause lots of problems. One minute to scrape the leftovers in the bin will stop a $100.00 Service call.

dishwasher will not empty water and has stopped Also a tap emblem has come on which I have not seen before

Hi
Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller & clean the chopper assembly. Please note that dishwashers don't drain out the complete water such that heating element doesn't overheat. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

The dishwasher keeps clogging.

Pre-wash majority of crumbs off plates and heavy grease off pots first.

after my dishwashing cycle is complete there is a residue left on the dishes -- I only fill the soap half way and i use a rinse agent.....

Dishwashers work best when the following "rules" are followed.

1. Rinse food off of the dishes before you place them in the dishwasher.

2. Face plates toward the center and do not over crowd them.

3. Always put glasses on the top shelf and always put plates on the bottom.

4. Run the hot water in the sink until it is as hot as it will get before you start the dishwasher.

5. If your dishwasher has a pot scrubber cycle use it and it will make a difference.

Doing these things should solve your problem. If not, let me know.

We have taken apart the bottom of the dishwasher to be sure no food was clogging the exit. It is clear but the water still willnot drain

HI In most dishwashers, the water pump is located under the lower sprayer arm. This component pumps the water through the dishwasher. The pump has two impellers, top and bottom. These, as well as other components, can become clogged with food or detergent. Here's how to disassemble the pump:

Step 1: Remove the cap that holds the sprayer arm on.

Step 2: Remove the sprayer arm, the screen, the pump housing, a bolt, the upper impeller, the food disposer blade, a spacer plate, the impeller hood, a flat plate, an O-ring, and the lower impeller. Lay the parts out in order as you disassemble them so that you'll be able to reassemble them properly.

Step 3: Clean the parts thoroughly with a mild detergent solution. If any parts are worn, replace them with new ones made for the dishwasher.

Step 4: Replace any seals, such as the O-ring or other washers, with new ones.

Step 5: Reassemble the pump, keeping the parts in order.

To reach the water pump, remove the sprayer arm and screen and then the pump housing. Remove the bolt, and the pump components can be disassembled.

On some dishwashers, the lower impeller serves as a drain pump. This type of system usually has a reversible motor; machines with nonreversible motors have drain valves, as detailed previously. If your machine possesses this impeller pump system, and the water will not drain from the dishwasher, clean the lower pump impeller. This may solve the problem. Otherwise, call a professional service person.
